Coming from an Apple fan boy? The phone for people who "think they are it basically" ::) ::)
That shape beemer don't go for much & as above driven by all sorts.
-
Really quite like that model 5 series, unfortunately they had some issues with some of the engines (nikosil lining) but other than that this was the model the Omega was trying to match.
-
I'm liking the young wife though :-X :-X
-
Oooo this is lovely :D if the funds where available ::) would make a perfect future Omega replacement for (me) at least... ;)

The way fuel prices are going up! Think most people are finding it hard to run anything T?

Was reading an article last night that said fuel sales have dived in recent months, period they gave (Auto Express) April - June, this year was 400 million litres down on same period last year :o
Trouble is i'm spoiled really when it comes to car running costs, as DIY service work + LPG in the 2.2, means the Omega is dirt cheap to run.
-
Not surprised, the numbers are high as that!! >:( just goes to show how many people must've taken alternative routes so they can make ends meet!!
-
imo, bmw deserves its name if it has a big engine.. and with those fuel prices, those days are long gone..
for me , next car will be a japanese..
-
Very unlikely I'll ever be a BMW owner through choice. They used to make decent cars....
-
Also the M3 is mechanically/electronically/comfort wise s**te and worse than the omega! I know a few mates that have got them, and one problem after another turns up, smg gearbox is first to come to mind. Although theres so many bmw forums it doesnt help, as youll still be getting the parts from the stealers.. (Applies to e46's)

Have a lc and a monaro with that wonga :y
If i parted with the omega , for now id like to try this A stop gap (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS-400-4-0-auto-PRICE-REDUCTION-/130604504857?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1e68a29719) :)
But more likely to be this Filling gaps (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-Daewoo-Matiz-Se-Red-Car-Spares-or-Repairs-/150917612913?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2323640571) :( ;D

I know that I'm wasting my breath but here goes anyway. ::) ::) ;D ;D
The highlighted bit above must be true as when I go out in the Omega I wear cheap jeans and cheap sunglasses but when I go out in the Bmw I undergo a complete personality transplant and put on my best snobby shoes and trousers and wear my snobbiest sunglasses so that I can lord it over the peasants. ::) ::) Yeah right. ::)
I'm all for defending the Omega marque but just imagine this: 'A fictitious Omega' pulls like a train from any speed and is limited to the agreed 155mph but still returns over 600 miles to a tank of fuel. It's comfortable to drive and eats up the miles with ease. Sounds great so far, but hey, wait a minute, you can't have one because some ignorant, snobby, holier than thou fat b@stard up the road has one. ;D ;D
Not really a good reason to avoid them is it. ::) ::) ;D At least have constructive criticism and not base it on alleged stereo-typical owner. :y
If you don't like a certain car then that is a completely different matter. We all have our likes and dislikes and it would be a strange world if we didn't. All cars have their share of problems if you keep them long enough. ;) ;) :y
Anyway, for now I suppose it's back to 'Over-rated, Over priced and Over here' attitude.

I was considering buying an ex-plod 330 boomer until I spoke to some of the pilots and service guys and saw the prices of them, basically the diesel pumps start to go at 80k, bit back end happy, and they are all retail money with 100+k. So I bought an 02 plate mv6 with 80k and history. :y

I agree. BUT the sterotypicalness is probably justified, especially during the later 90s/early 00s, when junior sales reps moved out of Chavaliers and Sierras (without indicators) into 3 series, again without indicators. Its the morons driving, not the cars. Shame beemers have more than their fair share of tossers driving. I do recall a double glazing saleman come round, and he was more interested in telling me about the 3 series he was getting next week, than showing me windows...
The other annoyance I have with beemer drivers - and remember I come from a large family of them - is that it appears a significant majority think BMW is somehow a more superior, more reliable car, and the dealers treat you well. BMW dealers are probably the worse there are, maybe with the exception of Renault, and the build quality is not better or worse than other cars. And uses the same components ;).
Rmember, BMW bought Rover (aside from wanting its 4x4 tech) as it had no idea on mass production, and needed capability fast (mid 90s, (the last of the proper) 3 series was taking off big time), so Longbridge taught them all they know ::). Additionally, the original 1 series was a Rover design, originally a replacement for the 25/45 models. This is why the 1 series is so badly designed, as it had to have a last minute rejig to make it RWD, which wasn't that successful.
BMW most successful car to date, the MINI, is also straight from the Rover design team.
So, beemer drivers, would you proudly shout out you drive a Rover ::)

....and a Rolls Royce, don't forget the Rolls Royce ;D.....and that was before BMW took over. The Mini was never expected to make money, it was purely to offset the gas guzzlers within the same company. :y
We've all got to 'love to hate' something so BMW wins that prize. :y To answer the OP's question, I want a VW T5 Transporter as my next 'car'. :y
Oh, and did I mention that I've got a BMW with...blah blah blah ;D

It's the way BMW asset stripped Rover and then shafted them that makes me determined never to spend a penny on a BMW product, aside from the stereotype, of course. People have such short memories. Plus, I might have to park it in Birmingham one day. ;)

Personally I think they're better built than a lot of cars, and I do genuinely believe that (apart from one particular model, the new 1 series). Dealers, there are good and bad, as with every company. The cars are not 100% fault free far from it, but I do personally prefer them to anything else. I have one particular car for myself a BMW 520d, why? Because I do believe that for what I do, it's by far the best car available. It's quick enough, it's very economical, it's very well made, it's got a nice specification, and most of all, it's a big comfy executive barge, that does well over 50 MPG, costs £120 Per year to tax and it does everything I ask.
I'll also concede that the new 1 Series really does have appalling build quality and other than the driving experience & the choice of engines, it's worth no more than an Astra, but I still stand by the fact, if they didn't have a BMW badge I bet a lot of people would be driving them. A brand which had attracted some bad drivers really makes people hate a car that much? Look around at bad drivers, they're not just in BMW's :).

Del, I agree, the build of my 5 series is much better than the Omega. I do however love both cars.
I find the worst drivers tend to be from Asia. They drive as though there are no others drivers on the road, they do not indicate, they drive very slow or very fast, and don't seem to care about traffic flow or other users >:( >:( Maybe they have the 'right attitude'?????
I speak as I find. There has just been a program about poor and dangerous parking at schools on BBC1. It was a local school to me. Everyone person that was flouting the LAW was from Asia :( :(

Getting back to the original thread, I had a look at an Audi 3.2 V6 SE Quattro saloon yesterday. 04 reg 105,000 miles. It was in very good condition outside, however the interior had hosted many parties ::) ::), it was wrecked. Only £3500.
I will keep looking.

I have the MOT this week..... may be sooner rather than later the old girl has to go depending on that.
Nexy car will be a Honda. And if there's one available it will have a 0.3L engine!!!

Yep servicing straightforward, and reasonably priced (if you get GM 5w/30 synthetic on 4 for 3 offer on TC ;))
Just front pads to replace now and MOT

I have a BMW. It's a V8. It's an e39 and is a great car. No better than the Omega though. I've had three 3.0 Elites and I am looking for another 3.0/3.2 Elite to replace the 5 series.
There is nothing 'wrong' with the BMW, it's just not an Omega. I'm not stupid enough to believe the Omega is the best car ever and will never be beaten, but there is something 'right' about it. It's more comfortable than the e39 but it doesn't go around roundabouts like the e39. Horses for Courses.
For me, personally, S Type Jag is the one, if you can live with the uglyness. Of course, some people find the car beautiful, and who am I to say they are wrong?
-

Some annoying lad has one locally in town but the saloon sport 3.5 v8 W reg .....
There's a young OOFer here with a V8 5 series ::) ::) ::) ::) ;)
That'll be two young *cough* OOFer's then, Andy :y

agreed.. but the main reason is, there isnt enough HP at the rear wheels like e39 V8.. I have driven many E39 530 , all was auto.. and the performance was long way below my expectations.. I would prefer a modded manual 528 or 540..
and if we talk about reliability, Bmw is not that different from an omega.. if it was neglected/abused by a previous owner, its a bottomless money pit but costs twice(or more) as much as omega (here).. i

The 530i (Which is Straight 6) has 230BHP and 220lb-ft Torque.
Compare that to the 3.0 Omega, 208BHP and 170lb-ft Torque and you see quite a difference especially as the 5'er is slightly lighter.
Chuck in the 540 V8 and you are looking at 282BHP with a considerably higher 325lb-ft of the good stuff.
Also, (in Auto form), the e39 has the much MUCH better 5speed Transmission (I believe very few late Omega's were available in Europe with this Tranny?).
Reliability? Just like a Golf, Astra, Bently Continental...... I guess it's how the car has been treated. Parts for both the e39 and Omega are now dirt cheap. Suspension components for the e39 are a little more expensive being Aluminium though.
I'm looking to spend ~£2k on another car. Will it be an e39? No. Will it be an Omega? If the right one comes along, then Yes.

If the right one comes along, then Yes.
in my opinion , as I have never seen a manual 530 , only 540 V8 manuals are worth purchasing or better m5 in E39 (528 has many problems although better in fuel)
definitely they are not daily runners unless you own a fuel station or several jobs .. :-\
besides driving a v8 with LPG dont sound logical also.. :-\
[and then opens another tab and check their second hand prices ;D ]
