Nothing here, dry as a bone - No ice, frost... Nothing.
Calm before the storm!
-

None here - though I do have a nice ice slide across the drive after the outside tap burst yesterday.
-6C this morning when I got up - I took one look at the thermometer, decided servicing the Omega would be just daft, and went back to bed.. as it's a balmy 0C now I might actually go out and change the oil.

What would we do if we had snow in feet like we used to when I was a kid, digging out the roads to walk to work, ice on the inside of the bedroom window. ;D ;D ;D
None here in Nottm yet, you can keep it in Dudley Dan :y

-
Our road is now that bad cars are stuck.
Could earn a few quid with the Landy :D
-
It started about an hour ago here - fine stuff, though, as it's so cold.. not really proper snow. It's settling easily, though, as it's been so darned cold recently (-6C at 8am, 0C at midday and back down at -2C as the sun started to set) but as it's so fine there's really only a dusting.
I'm sure people will be crashing into each other left, right and centre in about five minutes time, then...
-
Got a good 3 inches here and still falling. Was going to venture out but think it will be a takeaway tonight :y
-
About a couple of centimetres so far near Leeds. Not a problem yet until it freezes later. :-\
-
Been snowing here since about 11 o'clock (why do we say o'clock?) good couple of inches when I went out to collect daughter & grandson at 2.
Mig was loosing it up the hill to my place, good job there were no parked cars.
Good covering now, still snowing, been sledging with mini me. Dont think daughter is going home tonight unless the scenic can make it.
-
None here yet.Acording to weather reports its due to start shortly, just as I leave to go to work. ::)
-
got about half an inch maybe, and still falling......
-
(why do we say o'clock?)
a contraction , of " of the clock"
-
Started gently falling about 2pm while we were in Collingbourne Ducis (Wilts) this afternoon, was falling fast enough by the time we left at 5pm to keep the washer pump & wipers quite active all the way back here, and it's still properly coming down now.
-
Still bloody raining here >:( >:(
-
Snowing quite hard here now
-

I like snow, especially at the weekend :D it can bugger off come monday though :y ;D
-
I am looking out of our bedroom window watching the different driving styles ;D
Foot down hoping there tyres will grip seems to be the winner at the minute.....
It does lead me to think that some sort of lesson in snow conditions should be part of our driving lessons/test.

It would make sense to have maybe a session of skidpad training?
-
Just got back from walking Holly dog in the woods.....theres nearly an inch on the ground.....she likes the snow :)
Guess it will be gone in the morning tho.....rain is forecast later on this evening....with temps just above 0c.
-
It will be about tomorrow but that will be it. Probably 4 or 5 inches on the ground. Didn't expect this much although we are quite high up here.
-
About half an inch here so far. Steady as she goes.

Yeah, so I see, snow in Scotland and Cumbria by mid day sat, dwn to the midlands and the west by dusk.

How come those of us who learnt to drive a few years ago (17 in my case) didn't need special teaching for these kinds of things? I remember getting a few words of advice from my dad the first winter I was driving (in my Allegro ;D) - use 2nd gear to pull away, gentle on the controls and don't snatch the clutch as you change down while braking - and everything was fine, even though my journey to work was 30 miles on largely untreated roads?
Is it that drivers are worse, or that modern cars with electronic wizardry mean nobody needs to know how to drive, or simply that it was easier for people back then as we had half the power available to us even compared to most young folks 'first' cars today..
I blame the parents. It's always the parents.
Still just a dusting here, nothing to write home about really.

2 inches of snow and everything grinds to a halt. Nottingham has pulled all the buses off >:( >:(
My son works as an apprentice chef in the city centre and just called me to go pick him up !!!
I told him to get a taxi or walk to mine 4 miles and to stay with us tonight as he lives 10 miles away. ;D ;D
It has been snowing since 14.30 you'd think that in this day and age they could keep major routes open!!!! >:( >:(

Exactly what I said to swmbo when we saw the warning on the news, Aiports cancelling flights ffs what is all that about? ::) ::) ::)
About 3 inches or so here, snowing on and off, wind seems to have dropped though, it was horizontal when I fueled up at tea time, swmbo and Miss Vamps laughing at me from the inside of the Jeep........... :'( :'( Ready for action tomorrow..... :D :D :D
-

Luckily only 2 inches on the ground. Not been out so no idea what the roads are like.
-
No snow at work today, just freezing rain which froze solid to all car's windows etc & the roads! ??? ??? Fun & games on the way home then! ;D ;D The closer I got to home - 23 miles away - the more snow there was. About 4" here. And the roads are manic!
If they gritted here, they need to open another bag!!! ::) ::)
-
Just got back from Mrs. KW's birthday dinner out. Hmm. Quite a bit of snow and a bit slippery on the way back. :o Mrs. KW made the first couple of miles at 20MPH on full clench until I took pity and took over. ;D
I would have thought the A31 could have been kept clear but seemingly, despite them warning about it all week, that's too much to ask. Guess they figure it'll thaw tomorrow so they can rest on their laurels. ::)
-
Had a light dusting when we woke up this morning... Looks like it thawed a little while we were out but it was getting progressively heavier on the drive home. Be interesting to see what we have in the morning ::)
-
And you think it's cold here ... ::)

-
Just had a quick look out... Very fine but heavy enough that the van is covered already (only been home about an hour or so ::)) and not forecast to be heavy until the early hours ::)
Just hope I don't get an early job with an unreasonable customer ::)
-
Nothing here all day. :y
-
Plenty of snow round here, and doesnt seem to be stopping for the past couple of hours! Just come back from sliding about all over the place (intentionally with the tc off ;D) was brrrillant!! :y :y
-
Nothing here all day. :y

I think you will find you have wasted your time Phil....No more snow forecast and it has stopped now.... :( :( At least the Jeep has been out in some snow.... :y :y
Ploughs and gritters have been along our road, main one through the village, and have done a good job as it is now clear, I think the biggest problem will be ice tomorrow, oh and the side roads and the estate opposite us, road covered and an incline to come out so they struggle :D :D :D
-
About 4 to 5 inces in kettering plenty of idiots about already slowing down now though,
::) ::)
-
Had a few hours of steady light snow which has settled to about 2" deep. Just looked out and it is snowing heavier now. Even the gritted roads past my house are covered now. No work till 6am monday morning so i hope it may be gone by then. Swmbo and daughter off till monday as well so no snow clearing/emergency callouts tomorrow :) :y
-
my son is now stuck in Reading trying to get taxi

Let's not get in too much of a flap over what little we get in the UK. Countries that get 'serious' snow laugh at us.
-
TB has been very quiet on this thread. It was only last week that he predicted that there will be no snow this winter and winter tyres will be a waste of money. :o :o :o
Maybe he's busy doing a bit of moonlighting at the Bank of England, working on their financial predictions for 2012-2015. ;D ;D ;D

Sky news report about 100 cars abondoned on the m40 near high Wycombe due to snow.
-
Put my lurcher dog outside to go to toilet and he has just spent about 10 minutes running round in high speed circles, where he loves playing in the snow. :y
-
Rained here most of the evening, so the snow's almost washed away.
Most minor roads are now covered in ice, and all buses ceased at around 5pm. Our train services ran pretty well normally, though passenger numbers were well below the norm.
Consequently, no early finish for moi this evening! ;D
-
"looks" like a bit of a thaw here now, trees and bushes not holding any snow like they where earlier.
-
we probably have a couple of inches :o :o now in ramsgit looks more like theres drifting going on so think i will give work a miss as it usually gets worse the further inland you go and works in that direction down some nice country lanes and if i get stuck there will be no rescue from wifey....wifey does not do snow
-
I've just rescued one of the paramedics who clipped a kerb in the 10cm of snow we have, and am trying to get out of doing the car in a ditch off the M2 with no other details. I'm supposed to be finished in an hour.
-
Didn't get a single flake in Chester :(

I know i'm gutted, i've got a Discovery and can't use it :'( ;D
Might take a trip up the Horseshoe Pass, its only up the road and its probably a couple of feet deep ::)
-
Snow depth is 34cm (1.1 feet ) and temperature is -14oC. It's cold. In the morning I had to use my snow chain set, which can be applied for a lot but not all of tyre size by manufacturer's description. I think needless to mention that although I use normal 205/60 R15 tyres the chain was under sized >:( so I had to hack the set extensioned it with 5cm...and done! Checked , tried that's okay! :y
-
Relatively mild in Bath, snow that there was is gone. But the cold last night was enough to kill the battery in the ascona! MIG is better insulated it seems! :)
-
Roads all fine here. Just wet.
But as the forecast, it will be intestine to see what happens as the temp falls tonight. Q

Main roads in Nottingham are clear, and the thaw is set in. :y
-
4-5" here in Raunds, not cold yet and signs of thawing. Main roads seem clear.
-
I reckon we totalled 3-5", more in places where it had drifted, and it hasn't really thawed at home. Not been out other that to clear the snow off of the van and SWMBO's car to make sure it doesn't freeze solid ::)
Traffic seems to be moving OK on the heath roads now, although still slower than normal, so hopefully all will be OK ::)
Sky looks very heavy with moisture still and I'm not convinced that we won't get another dusting tonight :-\ :-\
Had fun earlier watching the only car that came to the end of my road get stuck :D I nearly went and offered a hand but it was a BMW so I couldn't pick myself up from laughing :-X ::)

We had quite a bit fall overnight in Hastings and it's still here but it has'nt snowed again.
-
Plenty round here this morning, 27 mile journey to work this am , luckily still got the old Subaru Forester coped with everything en route, have now decided to keep this , was going to sell it as have bought the wife the 2.2 estate, proved it"s worth this morning, & will help keep the mileages down on the migs!!

Nothing problematic here. About 2" fell Saturday evening, but not causing anyone any trouble. I suspect the ice is going to be more of a problem, now that there is moisture on the ground.
Snow here has pretty much melted, except where it hasn't been disturbed. Even my road, normally pretty bad, and the last to become passable around here, is slushy.

as dangerous as ice or worse imo because when you see ice you slow down.. ice crystals mixed with water around 0-2 degrees can be a trap..

Aye, but apart from the mad bird a few doors down, nobody drives down our road faster than walking pace :y
Actually, I think slush is safer than ice - you can see slush, ice can lurk unseen.

last week I see a tendency on our official drivers (in job-and they are professional) to go fast on slush.. :-\
-
not seen any snow this winter yet....
Mind you, we had at least 12" for the entire of February last year, so it's a welcome change
-
6-10 cm here and in N Kent. Cleared the last of it from our road last night fearing the freeze of slush, however, fears were unfounded as it is all slowly melting away now.
-
Got about 3 inches on top of my car on saturday night.
All melting nicely and should be gone by tomorrow :y
-
been and gone round here, just slushy mess, but gone foggy now, think seatbelt may be worn tonight in truck wherever im sent
-
All gone here now apart from the odd patch on roads that really don't get any traffic (like the one I live down - only four houses).. winter tyres worked a treat, though, where there was snow & slush; although I still left a big gap in front of me as I was trying to calculate braking distances for me and the fella behind who was apparently welded to my back bumper all the way to work ::)

Exactly why I left a double size gap in front of me - so I could slow down slowly and still stop, hoping the twonk behind me wouldn't mate with the back end of my car in the process ;)
-
I just saw a great headline on the BBC News website: "Berkshire roads may still be icy"
You know, I would never have guessed that sub-zero temperatures and wet roads could mean ice would form! Someone should have told the public before now! It's a national scandal! ::)
-
Bit of a non event round these parts tbh.
Bordering on freezing at 5am, screen was just turning slush puppy.
Roads absolutely fine. Just wet. :)
-
Some thieving gits have pinched all the grit out of the bin at the end of my street, nothing is safe these days.
Alfie.

All gone here now apart from the odd patch on roads that really don't get any traffic (like the one I live down - only four houses).. winter tyres worked a treat, though, where there was snow & slush; although I still left a big gap in front of me as I was trying to calculate braking distances for me and the fella behind who was apparently welded to my back bumper all the way to work ::)
be careful, you can stop immediatly on a sudden brake where others will go to moon ;D :y
Thats nothing to do with ice and snow. The daft bint managed it in good driving conditions >:(
looks like , someone rear ended you ??? :(
-
I'm feeling a bit let down! We live in wales, within spitting distance of a mountain and not one flake of snow has fallen! >:( What's the point in a Wales with no snow? :(
Now fog....there's another matter! :(

What's the point in a Wales with no snow?
Sheep. Rain. Sheep.
-
Still all around here and started falling again this evening on my way home, although not very hard ::)
Nearly got the van stuck in my yard where I know I'd have been fine in the Omega >:( >:( Who says that WWD is better than RWD in the snow ::) ::)

Get enough sheep and I suppose you could pretend they're snow! ::)

Some thieving gits have pinched all the grit out of the bin at the end of my street, nothing is safe these days.
Alfie.
;D I wonder where that went then? ;D
;)
-
i`m sick to the back teeth of grit..... me and my mate shifted 250kgs of it sunday and cleared all the walkways and footpaths of the retail park in telford... we started at 7am and collapesed by 5pm...... we both looked like white ghosts as well.... ;D ;D ;D

Bit of a non event round these parts tbh.
What did I tell you in September ::)
To rather late to stop me buying a Jeep though ::) ::) ::) PX offer today some £2600 less than I paid for it, because there has been no snow...... :( :( :'( :'(

I think it may be on it's way, looking at Citroen C4 Grand picasso as a replacement..... ::) ::) I have myself in a funny situation, the car is paid for, so difficult to trade down, meaning a Mig is not an option for me, though still want one for swmbo, that said I am thinking of having ours refurbished.......ultra reliable, she gets in, sarts it up and boots it.... ::) ::) ::)

You change your cars more often than your underwear :o ::) ;D
Keep the Jeep, it's bought and paid for and a reasonably comfortable and reliable bus that will always be useful if the weather turns.
Either spend the money on your Omega or replace that with the Picasso... Simples :y
Or buy my Omega :-X ::) (It's a joke and not for sale ;)) I have seriously considered selling it as it's only done about 300 miles in the last 3 months, but after searching for 21/2 years for it and nearly having it how I want it, I don't want to part with it ::) Plus, there will be a time in the not too distant future when I have someone working for me and I won't have the van all the time, so I'll need a car again ::) Plus, I'm not willing to take the huge loss I would having paid top money for the car and then LPG, bodywork, servicing etc ::)

today started again.. first rain then snow and ruined my walk, and made me completely wet >:(

:D :D minus 11 down here now ;D ;D
Yep, temperature here is dropping like a stone. 0.5 when I came home from work, -3.5 when I went out and hour later. -5.5 when I got back home an hour and a half after that.
-
-5 here when I got home ten minutes ago. :(

-6. -8 is forecast.

You tease you nasty person....... ::) ::) swmbo Omega will not pass another MOT since it's argument with a Deer, fix or replace is the current question, I can argue both ways... ::) ::)
Tis strange really, Work wise I make decisive decisions on a daily basis, the consequences of a poor decision potentially being very serious, even life threatening, decisions in my personal life, can't make them to save my life, ask Miss Vamps.... :D :D :D

I wasn't too impressed TBH ::)
Been slower than I'd have liked... January was very quiet, although the Coyton Refinery shambles added to that too >:(
But, fingers crossed, things are starting to pick up! Been busy so far this week :y
-
It will take time I suppose. ;)...........patience grasshopper. ;D
-
Indeed... Feet are like ice blocks tonight! :o ::)
I have to remind myself that it's only just coming up on 3 months ;)
-
Rome wasnt built in a day,and all that. ;)
-
It was a bit parky last night - though I woke up at 5am and it was very, very warm in the house..
..when I got up at 7 I realised I'd left the heating on 'constant' since Sunday, and that's why it was so warm. Whoops. That'll have been expensive, then!
-
Your gas bills going to look like an international telephone number. :o :o :o
It is snowing here at the moment, snow still not melted in back garden, so it is getting a top up. >:(
-
Bit of snow earlier. And I mean a bit. Barely noticeable and lasted about 30 seconds. But it did snow. 0c on the CID.
-
it was bbbbbloody ccccold in ramsgit today no snow but rather freezing with a nice chilly breeze got stiff after an hour :o :o :o ( wish i could keep it up for an hour bloody old fart) gave up work and went home :y
-
Its cold but really dry here currently. Been laying in the remains of Saturday's snow to swap the wheels over, and just about to jump in the bath for some warmth.
The BBC this morning were scaremongering about 8" on Friday.
Went out for chips last night - Tuesday Chip Night - and it was bizarre. Snow on pavements and middle of carriageways, but clear where cars had run. But where it was clear, it was perfectly dry, so no ice. Even in the dark, you could see the potential ice about 50m away. Really weird.

Water meter replaced with something not 20yrs older than the house. Hopefully that is resolved, even if it does mean I'm not paying for water. Hence not washing the cars weekly ::)

there seems to be "some" snow :o

Been a bit warmer here last couple of days. Managed to get up to -2 deg today. Generally -6 overnight, which is an improvement over the last week ago when daytime was no more than -6 and night and early morning was -14.
My '95 MV6 plods on....... heated seats...mmmm...lovely jubbly

Snowing!
Stopped. A while ago now. Temp dropping.
-
Still snowing here! >:(
-
Snowing heavily here in North London.
-
I just went out to the bin .. and aside from the fact that it's about 2C out there, I found it to be snowing proper big flakey flakes of white snow.
-
Not ventured out. Mrs TB isn't back, so either she's enjoying herself, or I'll get a phonecall soon, asking for towpole...

still snowing heavily here,,
i have to go and collect no4 daughter from her school show.... up a bastard great big , probably ungritted hill.... (Arnold's Way , off cumnor hill, for the locals..... ) this should be "entertaining"
one thing i am sure of, the 3.2 Mv6 is nothing like as good in snow as either of my previous 3.0 elites.
wish me luck.....

Started snowing gently while I was doing a job in Harlow. A120 near Stanstead was blocked so thought I'd pop across the A414 and do some marketing on the way back. Started snowing in anger and in the time it took me to pop into a garage and have a quick chat (5 mins max) it was starting to settle on the van :o Decided to just carry on towards home after that ::)
Not been snowing here yet (fortunately) but is forecast and Essex seems to be getting it already ::) Another fun day tomorrow I'm sure ::)
Oh... And whoever said FWD is better in the snow has never driven my van :o :o It's dreadful :'( I'd rather be in the RWD Omega any day ;)
-
Snowed here for about 5 minutes about an hour ago,but has hopefully passed over now.
-
cycled back in the snow after a late shift, that was fun. Snow actually makes it smoother ;D
-
Snowing! Heavily. ...sigh.
-
Still snowing here , all quiet on the roads ..... whats the betting they not gritted
Again ::)
-
I'm tempted to go and find a large, empty car park... :-[ :-[

loose some time to repair it.. and bought another on the road :P
-
I'm tempted to go and find a large, empty car park... :-[ :-[
We have an old 3 lane road with large grass verges that has been closed to through traffic and by passed. Used to have loads of fun on that years ago with my Mk1 Cortina GT, just throw it around, the worst that could happen was that you got stuck in the grass verge :) Like the large car park idea as well, done that a few times over the years, as long as you know it is one without kerb stones dividing it up.... :D :D :D
-
I'm tempted to go and find a large, empty car park... :-[ :-[

Aw :( I suppose I could take the MR2, that has summer tyres on it.. although it currently also has no number plates attached ;D ;D

Saw an Astra G bombing along a road, on-coming traffic, Astra decides just go through this snow, way to fast, slams into the kerb. Inside wheel now at 45 degree angle, women drive who got out, just looked at it and looked stunned. ;D

The sad thing is, you can imagine she genuinely doesn't understand how it happened..

No one has explained to her that snow and ice are slippery. :o :o :o :o
Probably works for local council as a health and safety executive on £35k+ pa. >:( >:( >:(
I'm sure she will do a risk assessment tomorrow and arrange a recall of every Astra where she concludes they have faulty steering when it is cold. ;D ;D ;D
-
Well the roads were basically clear this morning, aside from my estate as always - a tiny bit of slush here and there but once you were on major roads (like the A329) everything was fine.
Still, didn't stop some fool in a Fiat 500 (who buys those, anyway?) doing 30mph the whole way down the NSL & 50 limit A-roads.. well, until we got to Virginia Water, where (s)he sped up to 40mph. Must be safer to do 40mph past two primary schools than it is on a country A-road, apparently...
-
We had a smattering overnight, probably 1 - 1.5". Not enough on its own to cause and problems, but the ice might later.
Got to send Mrs TB to Great Missery, a large village about 4 miles from WIM, this afternoon, for the weekend, as its her college weekend. Coincidentally, tomorrow, I'll be passing her, as I'm off to WIM as well ;D
-
Couple of inches on the car this morning. Our close wad a tiny bit slippery if provoked. Main roads no problem. Just wet. Slight boarder of snow creeping into lane3.
Normal motorway driving apart from that. :)

-
I waited in the morning for rush hour crowd pass (I slept by the way ;D ) then came the sun and melted the roads.. :)
-
Doesn't look like we got any more, not sure about further south as that's where I was last night when it started chucking it down ::)
Fortunately the council have turned up to do the snow clearing here (private estate and we pay them to do it! :o) :y Yesterday they ran up and down once with a Transit and gritting trailer onto the sheet ice expecting it to work ::) I think they got told they had to come back again today and do it properly :D
-
News from Mrs TB, who left at 7am, only the estate is slippery, otherwise all roads perfectly clear.
-
from snow some of the highways are closed.. Ankara-Bursa today was close..In east part of the country
several meters of snow, too may villages blocked.. and now roads are totally frozen :(
for this weekend I was planning to go fathers city but I give up..

In the Ukraine, they had rain last Friday and over the weekend with temperatures just above freezing. There was localized flooding on roads from the melted snow.
Today it is colder (below freezing) and snowing again, my wife is not very happy. :(
They are lucky as they are the very end house in the village and furthest from the main road, but a tractor with snow plough has been clearing their road up to 4 times a day. :y
-
may be a boring subject, but I'm eating my fingers here >:( >:(
its been 2 days and all reckless, irresponsible ,selfish single cell brained morons doing every possible stupidty as much as possible >:(
snow started monday night (as dusting) as expected and meteo reported that it will turn to heavy snow and will continue for 5 days (few days before) and Istanbul management raise alarm..
but Ankara (capitol) was in deep sleep.. they had to close to schools from monday night and announce..
but no , all services took children and tried to bring them schools which were closed in the morning ??? >:( and after they bring them back.. because of traffic it took nearly half a day.. and afternoon when rush hour started (16 PM) roads were already blocked.. skating cars, public busses, vans all block the roads.. lots of accidents here and there..
what surprises me is even a public bus, driven by a prof. driver (their all time job from morning to late night everyday for years)
tries to climb very high icy steep hills without chains ..( keep in mind snow started 18 hrs ago)
as you can guess, lots of cars with summer tires on the road so lots of accidents, skating blocking the roads.. I cant believe this people are real..probably they think they are living in sunny Antalya.. >:(
many friends yesterday night couldnt reach home.. some stay in other friends house.. some leave their cars and walk kms..
today some of them dont come to work.. desperate..
these people cant manage to keep traffic open, let alone politics or democracy..
-
Sounds like an ideal place for TB with his placid tolerance of morons and retards. ::) ;D ;D ;D
All he would need is the local Shell petrol station staff out there as well...... paradise. :o ;D ;D ;D
