Omega General Help / manifold problems
« on: 03 March 2008, 01:10:27 »
Hello every one
just 3  weeks after spending £400 on my omega in January(which includes a cat)the bolt which holds the manifold to the engine has snapped :(.since last june i have spent nearly £800 on this car on timing belt, water pump, cam shaft sensor,2 oil and filter changes, rear breaks,CAT and a second hand steering rack  which was required for MOT.The front breaks still need doing and I still have the Ideling problem which needs sorting out.I also need 2 tyres +the tracking done.
How bigger job is this as i am being told different things.I love the car but have to draw the line somewhere sensable if this is going to cost an arm and a leg :'(.Please  advice.
Thank you for all your help.

Cheapest no cost option is to speak to the friendly tester and try the test again with no air filetr in place and see what readings you get....  Would bet a nice clean filter may well solve the probs....   :y

Thanks to you  :y I started with the easiest option got the air filter out and banged on the floor a few times and hoovered it as well !It did the trick drove round town for 30 miles yesterday and it didn't cut out and it is idling at round 750 rpm quite happily so I invested in a new air filter. She is now running happier than she has done for ages ;D.Having said all this there is ratelling noises comming from exhaust which it may sugest the cat broken inside?
The Emissions test failed on CO which read 0.996 on the first fast idle test and o.982 on the second  fasidle test where the max. allowed is 0.3.
The Lambda readings were 1.017 and 1.013 respectively for first and second test which is just whithin limit(max allowed is 1.03) ;D

Oh Dear .....Its Xmas and my car has decided to kick me in the teeth for not washing the winter crap off her.She has started cutting out again!! :(

Omega General Help / failed  emissions test
« on: 14 December 2007, 14:28:03 »
hello every one.just failed the MOT and the garage insists i should change the CAT first.Apparently they have tried to get the reading down to try and make it go through but it didn't go down enough and for the extra effort they want an xtra 50 quid.
Sofar I have spent 100 pounds for a MOT failure sheet! :-[I know all kinds of sensors and valves can effect your CO  readings  such as Lambda sensors etc. what should i change first ?Specially that I do have some kind of Ideling problem (ie fluctuating revs)and she does cut out frequently. Will this be a bigger cause of my failed emissions test than the CAT?I get no lights or warnings appearing on the Dash. Thanks for your help.

so you would actually get less miles per galon but you save on cost of fuel. How do we know once we convert Gordon wouldn't hike the taxes up?As it is I could probably get the 500 pounds back whithin a year or even less which sounds good.Could any one help me with the items below

1-Is it worth having it on a car of that age with 120000 on clock?
2-once fitted can it be removed and fitted on to other cars cheaply enough once this one has had it?
3-Will running things on Gas wear things out quicker than normal and therefore costing more in repairs?

« on: 10 August 2007, 15:00:13 »
I now seem to be facing another problem.after excessive rateling noise i took the car to one of these exhaust places and had it checked over he told me the cat converter has broken inside and thats what the noise is.how can i double check on that ? is the noise a good tell tale sign?I know when it comes to MOT time in January it may or may not pass, estimated cost was £200.Any cheaper options? Can any one help please.

Thanks for the quick reply.he told me he has to take some things off in front of the engine and then solder it he even asked me to leave the car there for half a day or so.is the job simple enough for a no hoper of a novice like me who doesn't do any thing other than changing hoses plugs simple stuff etc. and if so is there instructions somewhere on the site?thanks.
