Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: CDR2006 cutting out
« on: 14 June 2009, 12:05:30 »
I am watching this with interest as I have a 96 Elite with a SC 804 CD which has the same problem. Started out as an intermittent fault but now with no audio. Is the amplifier under the parcel shelf for the aerial only or is it audio?

The new amp will not have the same plug as this so I will have to cut off and connect the wires.

The middle row connections are marked like rrs and rrg. Will this be right rear speaker and right rear ground and will be out put to speakers?

Top row has
rrs and inf: frs and nc: fls and bb-: rls and bb+: ag and +12v rem. Are these the inputs from the head?

Bottom row wrs and wrg: wls and wlg: which I assume are outputs to the woofers in the parcel shelf. There is also two 12 volt inputs.

I have ordered a new amp. Can ayone help me translate the connection diagram from the Philips amp. Just an indictation of what the shorthand stands for so I get the ins and outs right way round.

Not sure if this image will be readable. Apologies if it is not.

OK Found it. It is located in the spare wheel well just in front of the wheel.

It is a Phillips Type SP 1601 with W8Y on the label. The voltages check out ok and the fuse is intact but no sound so I guess it is goosed.

The next question is will I be able to get something to easily replace it without a lot of re-wiring. The connecting block is similar to the layout on the radio head. Three rows of connectors one row longer by one pair of connections.

All the speakers are dis connected. If by subs on shelf do you mean a couple of big speakers on the parcel shelf? If so I have them. According to Haynes drawing sound processor U23 and is protected by fuse F6 which I have so I am guesssing there is an amp somewhere. My problem is where it is located.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Phillips SC804 no audio
« on: 09 July 2009, 16:17:10 »
I am still struggling with my Philips SC 804 audio system. It started with no sound from it when starting the car and the sound would come on after a while with crackling etc. but would then settle and be ok.
The time interval before it would come on got longer until it did not come on at all. The station identification is visible so it seems a pure audio problem. ( power is on)

I purchased a replacement head on Ebay but that was exactly the same. I have disconnected all the speakers and cannot find any wires shorting out and I have  dug about in the boot for an amplifier and cannot find anything. With speakers disconnected there appears  to be 0.03 volts across the speakers.
Can anyone out there help as I have resorted to singing in the car and that is not a good thing.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Intermittent Radio
« on: 23 May 2009, 16:49:26 »
Hi All

I have a 1996 Elite fitted with a Phillips SC 804 radio head. The problem is that the sound from it comes and goes like there is a bad connection. I see from the Haynes drawing there is a 'sound processor' fitted somewhere. Can someone point me in the right direction where it is located also is there a relay associated with this?

The radio or CD player seem ok as even if there is no sound the station id or track info still show in the display.

cheers

Omega General Help / Good Fairies
« on: 28 November 2008, 17:23:22 »
I have a 1996 3.0 Elite and have had a water loss problem for a while.Annoying but not terminal and I could never pin point where the water was going ( worry about head gasket but no obvious signs). Despite a couple of doses with Radweld I was still losing water. Last month the gearbox starting acting up. It was not shifting up from 1st to 2nd and going into fault/limp mode.

Dodgy gearbox and possible HGF it was beginning to look like time for a reluctant parting of the ways. Water loss seemed to get worse and temperatures were higher than normal. Looking under the bonnet I could see steam from the back of the engine. HBV!!. Well at least that could explain the water loss. I figured if the water loss was down to the HBV then it was worth changing the gearbox oil to try and cure the box problems.

I had to work away and was gone for 4 weeks just got back today and removed the scuttle. Ran the engine to spot the leak.....nothing....can see water staining around the area but no leak. Decided to take the car out despite the box problems to see if the leak would start. Gearbox was perfect. Have driven for miles.....no box problem....no water leak. Am I going mad? The voices in my head tell me I am perfectly sane. Maybe I have Good Fairies at the bottom of my garden.

The only thing I did was I noticed one of the rubber hoses on top of the engine was split and drawing air. I cut it back and popped it on...no leak.

Anyone out there got any thoughts or ideas as to what happened?

Omega General Help / Re: Missfiring Omega

Looks like the problem is oil. Checked the 3 accessible plugs and the leads were oil soaked. Cleaned these up and a big improvement.

I had the cam covers changed about 4-5 months ago

Omega General Help / Missfiring Omega
« on: 09 November 2007, 10:53:20 »
My Omega 3.0 Elite 1996 vintage is sounding rough and low on power. I have done the paperclip test and with the engine running all I get is code 12 with the engine stopped 12 and 31.

This problem started with a sort of hesitation when driving and has now got worse.

Any pointers?

Omega General Help / Re: Vibration at 70 - 80 and beyond (cough)
« on: 28 August 2007, 20:11:22 »
Don't think this will help TVT but may be worth sharing.

I had a new set of tyres fitted and all seemed well for a couple of weeks and then a vibration set on at around  70- I don't do alot of motorway miles. Vibration was felt through the seat and was bad. All sorts of dire thoughts ....prop sahft   'wrong tyres. Took it back to the tyre outlet and the balance weight had come off arear tyre. Exscuse from the tyre fitter was they now use zinc balance weigts instead of lead and they detach easily. Hope you solve your problem as they are a lovely car.
