Omega General Help / Coolant level warning system
« on: 16 February 2010, 19:01:58 »
Hello,

My coolant level warning came on tonight (plenty of coolant so no problem there) and after reading a couple of posts it seems fairly common - the remedy being buy a new expansion tank as the float does not come separately.  However there does not seem to be any connecting wires - so does anyone khow how it works?

Omega General Help / Re: MOT failure 1.5.A4a
« on: 19 January 2010, 15:11:06 »
Thanks evrybody - went back today and asked the tester to show me the fault.  Lots of blushing and farting and "they didn't work like that when we tested them".  Anyway got my MOT and said fairwell to that garage for the very last time!!
Thanks all again.

Omega General Help / MOT failure 1.5.A4a
« on: 16 January 2010, 18:06:44 »
My car failed it's MOT today on "Rear hazard warning lamps not flashing in phase, with ignition on [1.5.A4a].  When I picked the car up I understood the hazards were not working at all it was only when I got home and read the failure chit that I realised the actual reason for failure (so I have not questioned the garage yet!!). However using the Mk 1 eyeball all the lamps work and all appear in phase so I don't know how they came to their conclusion.  Has anyone heard of this particular MOT failure before or am I being taken for a ride.

Omega General Help / Re: Thermostat housing leak.

I agree that the leak may be caused by another fault.  My logic is that it only started losing coolant (and the red stain appeared) after the thermostat was changed.

Yes the seals and housing were new VX parts.

Omega General Help / Thermostat housing leak.

I had my thermostat replaced a couple of months ago and since then I have been losing coolant - not much - about a pint every 2 thousand miles.  I can see a red stain around the thermostat housing so I'm pretty sure the seal is leaking. As it's only a relatively small leak (at present) can I safely use a radiator sealant (radweld etc) to fix it/make sure it gets no worse.

Omega General Help / Re: Secondary water pump
« on: 17 October 2009, 10:14:51 »
Mine is exactly the same as yours - never heard the pump make a noise - the pipes to and from the pump, and the pump, get hot.  I would also like to know what difference it makes, what makes it come on and how to test it.  So if anyone out there knows????

Omega General Help / Cam belt fitting in Stoke on Trent
« on: 06 July 2009, 08:22:44 »
Help!
I took my 2.5 V6 to a local garage on friday to have a cam belt kit and water pump fitted.  Now the once smooth tickover is rough and noisy (did not notice it when I picked the car up as it was raining).  I do not trust the garage to have another go at it as I am sure they have not fitted the cam belt correctly.  Does anyone know where in Stoke on Trent I can get the job done correctly?

I have the same problem which is appears to be caused by the rubber trim, that clicks into place at the bottom of the windscreen, leaking.  Mine has no sign of sealant ever being there - it just clicks in and does not even fit close to the screen. So if someone does know how it should be correctly installed I would also be grateful.

Omega General Help / Re: Oil filter stuck
« on: 21 February 2009, 11:24:24 »
Thanks - the strap wrench did the trick (and skinned my knuckles).    Everything seems OK now except I am unsure if turning the body has misaligned anything (oilways?).  As for muppets I always try and avoid them - but such is life!

Thanks once again

Omega General Help / Oil filter stuck
« on: 20 February 2009, 20:26:55 »
Hello,
I have a 2000 2.5 V6 with the cartidge type oil filter with the alloy cap(not the metal cannister type).  Tried to change the filter today but the cap will not come off - the whole assembly, including the case that goes into the crankase, turned (yes I was it turning it the right way).  Has anyone come across this before and if so do you have any ideas on how to get the cap off so I can change the filter?

Omega General Help / Drivers side heater not working
« on: 11 December 2008, 15:53:52 »
Hello can you please help.
I first posted the question below some time ago and since then have changed the climate control panel, checked the heater vacuum pipes and the servo motors/link arms (I found 3 on the drvers side and all appeared to be working correctly).  Anyway I still have no hot air on the drvers side.  Does anyone have any suggestions apart from buy a decent car!!!!

I drive a 2000 facelift 2.5 V6 CD and the heater on the drivers side does not work as it only blows out cold air whatever the switch settings. The passenger side works fine (blows hot or cold in line with the switch settings) and all the indication on both sides works normally. I have tried resetting the servos but that does not make any difference.  the heater pipes under the dash are hot - as confirmed by the passenger side working OK.
Any ides please?
Thanks.
