Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Mid and dash light issue ?
« on: 03 March 2010, 20:09:18 »
hi rob in gib
sounds similar to a problem i've just got..! my dash went nuts... rev and speedo spiking randomly, dash light lighting up randomly, no problem with MID or radio but engine running fine then staggering along. eventually stopped and wouldn't move on, battery completely flat.managed to get towed to a mates garage and i got stuck in. !!. after some head scratching i think i've pined it to a faulty alternator sending power surges. Either that or the wiring from/to the alternator is at fault.(still investigating)
a quick question fella, it sounds strange but bare with me.! does your battery light come on as it should when you turn your ignition on? mines blown and it has something to do with the above.!

Omega General Help / oil smell in car
« on: 07 March 2010, 16:52:33 »
hi guys
just a quick one.
getting a strong oil burning smell coming into the cabin when the vent fans are on. i've only had the car a week and am working through a few issues. i'm gonna do a full oil flush and change but suspect the smell is due to poor crank case breathing. does that sound right? if so is there a kit or is it a case of replacing a few hoses? also i've seen a crank case filter online that seems to do away with all the plumbing. anyone know if they work?
cheers guys

Omega General Help / Re: Still having auto trouble,!!!!
« on: 04 March 2010, 19:11:39 »
hi gotchya 1
a few years ago, i had a auto box with a knackered torque converted that gave its symptoms by having slow gear changes epecially 2nd to 3rd gears, it also held onto the revs till around 4500/5000 before changing up or down. it didn't burn the oil though? i changed all the oil, flushed out the system, de-coked the sump (loads of crud in there) replaced the converter and all was well. doesn't really match your problems but maybe some of mine are shared with yours. (i used loads of oil, around 10/15L, but i did use some to flush the system)
good luck mate

sorry forgot to say, no i chucked the replacement cable away, complete crap..! wired up the original which i think was a GM part as the wiring was exactly the same (replacement cable had similar but different colour wires)

yeah your prob right, best buy official sensor. i'll wire up the cable properly and test it again before buying the new sensor but looks like i'm gonna need it. (hope it is the sensor, not sure what the reluctor ring is?) is it part of the wiring loom?

i checked and re-wired the connection, prob need to solder it to give it a perminent and good quality connection. do my symptoms match up with a faulty sensor?

i fairness no, bit of a ebay special. it came with the sensor and its cable connector with some cable attached. the cable and connector where poo..! wire like spiders legs but the sensor looked ok. could it be that?

Omega General Help / P0340 code and burnt oil smell
« on: 04 March 2010, 18:30:26 »
hi guys
just joined up as i've just bought a 1997 2.0 16v omega. have given it a good going over and sorted out a few issues. (i had a knackered alternator that played havoc with my dashboard..!!but all sorted now).
just got a couple of things that you guys might clear up for me. my EML's on and after having the codes read have got P0340 code indicating the cam sensor has a poor conection. there seems to be a bit of a bodge job done on mine with cable connectors joining the wiring to the cam sensor. I replaced the sensor and rewired the cable better but am still showing P0340 code. it seems this "spliced" cable is normal? some sort of upgrade to the sensor? the result of this fault seems to be the rev limiter cutting in at 4500, and generally poor power delivery. the other problem i have is a strong smell of burnt oil in the cabin pressumably through the air ducting. the last time i had this was on a saab and it was poor crank case breathing. is this a similar problem? any help on the above would be great.
cheers
andy
