Omega General Help / Re: Biodiesel in my car.
« on: 28 March 2012, 10:16:28 »
MY 2.5TD ran happily on bio diesel for about 10 months, then got a severe misfire at idle. I eventually cleared it by doing diesel magic  trick twice and running on regular non supermarket diesel for  a couple of months but after all that and worrying if the fuel pump (and therefore the car) was a write off I won't be using it again!

My 2.5TD developed a misfire at idle, it didn't clear immediately after diesel magic trick but after using a few more tanks of regular non supermarket diesel. This is despite a diesel "expert" saying I would need a new pump at far more than the car is worth. So it looks likely that it was dirt in the injection pump caused by extended (10 months) running on 100% Bio Diesel, perhaps not surprising as it is recycled cooking oil!  I won't risk using it again.

In case anyone else gets this problem, it has cleared now without repeating diesel magic trick but after using a few more tanks of regular non supermarket diesel. This is despite a diesel "expert" saying I would need a new pump at far more than the car is worth. Thanks for advice

The leak off pipes have been replaced a couple of times, not leaking now as far as I know.

Omega General Help / 2.5 td running rough at idle
« on: 03 March 2012, 19:29:21 »
I have a 2.5 td with 170000 on the clock . Just before Xmas it started running rough at idle. As soon as throttle is opened it runs fine. The problem can come and go intermittently. I have followed old thread advice and filled fuel filter with Diesel Magic twice. It has improved a little but not cured. Is it worth repeating the Diesel Magic treatment or could there be another solution?

Thanks! Tried diesel magic trick twice, idling slightly better but by no means cured. Engine runs fine apart from when stationary. Getting fault code 64 - fuel quantity control out of range. Will try booting it. Any other suggestions? Is it worth repeating four times as above?

Glad to find this advice I am having same problem myself with 2000 TD Auto 175 k on clock. Have to admit I have run on Bio - Diesel for a year quite happily but idle went rough before Xmas. Changing fuel filter and running on expensive Shell diesel, putting Diesel Magic in tank didn't fix it but I will now try filling filter with Diesel Magic as above.

Thanks

General Discussion Area / Re: Petrol versus Diesel....which Miggy?

I have had my 2000 2.5TD Auto Estate 7 years now,  160000 miles, no problems with engine or gearbox.

The engine was chipped to 160 bhp by the previous owner so it's not short of power but only gives 30-35 mpg.
