Omega General Help / Re: Cooling (and heating) issue
« on: 14 January 2016, 14:24:53 »
Awesome! One last thing. Since the waterpump was just replaced, I had this assumption that all the coolant would be removed/replaced in the process but it certainly doesn't seem like it did. Given that all the coolant stayed in, I assume the best thing to do is vent (anti- air-lock) and flush the system. Was thinking of using this guide:  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90625.0

I haven't been able to see it, so it probably has to be accessed from under the car.

Beyond that, I imagine the coolant system being flushed might help more efficiently cooling the engine, while the air lock fixing is hopefully enough to fix the heating issue in the car.

Yes?

I'll try and do that. I found this post with a bit more comprehensive guide (I'm a bit of a noob) and will try that out.

1) To remove an air lock, it is only necessary to remove the cap whilst the engine is warming up & 'burping' the radiator hoses by giving them a good squeeze occassionally. Once the engine has reached normal operating temperature you will feel the top radiator hose become quickly hot as the thermostat opens, when this happens give the hoses a final 'burp' & replace the expansion cap. By & large, the system is self bleeding and after the initial 'burping' you should not need to do it again unless there is significant coolant loss.

I assume this would take care of both issues, really? If it's not that, flushing the system? Can I flush it without having to hoist it up or any such thing? I tried finding the valve on the driver's side but couldn't see it from the top-side. Just curious.

I don't know if I do. I know the coolant liquid looks a bit muddy but otherwise seems okay. If it's an air lock, how do I alleviate that?

Omega General Help / Cooling (and heating) issue
« on: 14 January 2016, 11:44:11 »
Hey guys!

I've got a yr. 2000 2.5 V6 petrol Omega (Sedan version).

The temperature is erratic (going between 85-100 degrees) and suddenly the heat in the car is luke-warm at best, but still functioning. I have an idea at the cause but would like some advice.

- The resent history was first a broken fan-belt about a month ago, which I got changed
- Then a month later (last week) the new fan-belt jumped off and it was shown that the waterpump had died, which was probable cause for the first fan-belt breaking.
- Now the water-pump has been replaced and the following symptoms are there:
  - The 'check coolant level' light comes on when the car starts and is turned off.
  - The heat doesn't really come on too much in the car
  - Temperature fluctuates between 85-100 when driving

Other information:
- I know both blue and red coolant has been filled in the coolant tank over time and thus there's some sediment in there. For a few years, it's only been red tho.
- The coolant container is completely topped off.

My best guess:
I imagine the coolant system needs to be flushed out but I don't know for sure. Before the waterpump broke, heat worked just fine and temperature was just fine too. I wonder if the garage somehow did something wrong with the waterpump or what the issue is? what do you guys think?

Thank you again so much in advance.

Thanks guys, will run with this. My awesome mechanic will be on this. :)

Alright, quick follow up. It is cranking like a mofo and if gets pushed or towed, it will actually start and just keep running. It never stalls or anything else.

Does this still confirm the crank sensor that's posted in the FAQ? Which one will I need to replace it with? I'm sorry I'm not that car-saavy so just wanted to ask to be sure. Also, how much does the part cost and how much time does it take to replace?

Hi Omega Experts!

I have a problem with my Omega that's even got my local garage stomped.

The car is a 2000 Omega 2.5 V6 petrol, Manual gear.

Problem
The problem is that it on occation won't start. When it does get started, it runs flawlessly.
- If I put it in gear when attempting to start it and lifts clutch and applies gas, it actually moves (forward or backward, depending on putting it in 1st or reverse) but it doesn't come on.
- If it gets pushed or drawn in this instance and I crank it again, it will start.
- I've had the problem occur even after driving for a while and then stopping for 5 minutes for gas or dropping someone off, and then coming back to it, it doesn't start.
- When I've gotten it towed to the garage (twice) it has started right away again, simply by being moved... They're saying it's hard to find a problem when everything appears to work. Fair enough.
- Fault-codes - there are no faults except for a lambda sensor (O2 sensor) which appears out of order. Could this cause the issue?

Background
- The car is recently serviced with oil-change, filters, sparkplugs etc.
- It was repaired for the above issue as well, as there were two of the cylinders/valves to the sparkplugs that leaked in oil. The leaks were fixed by replacing the parts and installing new sparkplugs. Also, a power distributer was changed since it still wasn't starting after this fix. After this was done, it worked well for a while, only to have the problem happen again. Then it went back to the garage, they couldn't find the problem/car worked perfectly and until now again, where it died on me again.

Question(s)
What in the name of all that is holy is going on? It usually starts but sometimes it doesn't? Is this a crank-sensor issue as is so famously mentioned a lot on this site or what do you guys believe it is?

Any help wold be greatly appreciated, thank you. :)

Yes, on the dash comp. it registers outside temperature correctly. It also increases airflow when I lower the desired temperature. Only thing that doesn't happen is that it cools the air.

I have a 2000 V6 2.5 Omega and since the summer started, I ran the A/C and it worked fine.

Then a while ago, it blew a fuse in that the display (where it displays temp and so on) went out. Since my car's originally from italy and thus my instruction manual in italian (I'm Scandinavian so no dice!) I had to piece together which fuse it was but basically had to look through a few. Found it and replaced it and it worked, ta-da! It was the fuse-box under the steering wheel, btw.

Anyway, after this the A/C has not worked. Air is still blown in but it's not temp-regulated. I checked the fuse for the AC and it works just fine. I'm just having a hard time believing it's not electrical somehow but would like some input. Also, if you require any more info, let me know!

Thanks in advance! :)

Omega General Help / Re: So... a non-starter!

Hi there!

Thank you for your reply!

I will get it to a proper mechanic, no sweat.

Most questions were answered earlier in the thread but I'll reiterate (Sorry I didn't before)

it's a 2000 2.5 V6 as you correctly surmised.
I did paperclip test and got 013 and 031. 013 is driver's side O2 sensor and 031 was simply cuz the engine wasn't on.

I'll see about that crank-sensor and otherwise with the oil stuff.. thanks a bunch!

btw, what should a fairly decent shop charge for this? What is my ballpark you think?

Alright, I have an update on the situation on this one...

I sent it to a mechanic and he couldn't quite figure it out. What we have is this - it's not water in the tank. They tried start-gas directly into the intake and it didn't even try to fire, it only cranked.

The spark-plugs don't give a spark, even though they've individually been tested to work. There are six spark-plugs and all the plugs on one side (three of them) are soaked in oil now.

So I am thinking it might be a relay or power distribution or some such issue? and what's with the oil on one side?

Your thoughts and assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)

Can you tell me everything I need to know about crank sensors? Can I replace them myself or what should I expect?

Thanks!

Thanks! Looked it over and that will be one of the next steps. I've activated my network of car-knowing-pplz here and I still hear condensation in the tank i.e. too much water in the fuel as the most likely culprit. I've also looked on the internets!!! for symptoms of this and it matches fairly accurately (i.e. exactly) what has happened to my car. The only fault-code I got was 13 as well but the replacement of the sensor will obviously also be on the list if other stuff fails.

I never heard about the condensation before but apparently it is quite common here in Sweden. Maybe it's folklore amongst the car-folk but as a non-native and definitely not knowledgable about climate-effects on cars, I just go 'uhm, alright' and have researched it a bit. Apparently there's some dry-fuel and other stuff one can add and then see... But!!!

The crank-sensor you say? Is that something I can replace myself? Where is that? How much is it? Basically, what do I do next if I'm a relatively helpless scandinavian person? ...
Oh and what does a crank sensor do, exactly? And don't say it senses the cranking... that'll make me cranky. :P

Anyway, enough corny from here, thanks a bunch for your help and input, I'll keep you posted on what happens! :)
