Omega General Help / Re: Cooling fans - only one is working
« on: 26 September 2012, 16:36:27 »
Well...practically everything was disturbed (renewal).

All 3 fans proved to be working on my kitchen table.

As I was experiencing overheating lately , I thought I buy a brand new swith ( the white one, marked "C" on my pic), as the old one looked really bad.

I was hoping this sole movement solves the problem in itself.

It did not.

So I pulled off all FUSES : they are O.K., no testing needed.

I also pulled out all RELAYS ,and tested them using a light bulb...as soon as current arrived to    leg 86   , they did allow current from    leg 30   to     leg 87    as they should.

So I seem to be stuck here....I was trying to understand those pictures...

Sorry , but the above is a QUESTION.
E.g. :

- If I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 1 : should all 3 fans work at LOW speed ?
...etc

(I was trying to understand instructions given by Jimbob at 09:50:02)

I'm a bit panicky as my fan tester has only 5 legs, yours seem to have 6.
I'm not even sure if my colours are identical to yours :

1 - BROWN+grey   (or might be    light blue   , I can't decide)
2 - BLACK+blue
3 - EMPTY
4 - BLACK+white
5 - BROWN+lilac
6 - RED+blue

So at the moment I'm just wondering if I managed to understand those instructions at all.

Well, mine looks a bit different , but the thing arrowed must be the fan tester (ignore those numbers on the relays) :

It has 5 legs :

1 - brown+grey
2 - black+blue
3 - EMPTY
4 - black+white
5 - brown+lilac
6 - red+blue

Now...let me try to understand....

At first, I am to connect   leg 4   to    leg 5   (jumper)

With ignition OFF :

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 1 : all 3 fans at LOW speed

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 2 : all 3 fans at LOW speed  (again)

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 4 : MAIN fan at HIGH speed, others sleeping

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 5 : one of the aux fans at HIGH speed, others sleeping

With ignition ON (engine NOT running) :

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 2 : MAIN fan at LOW speed, others at HIGH speed.

It also says: "Test terminals 1, 4 & 5 also"...okay, but what should happen with 1,4,5 ?

...When driving, no overheating , ....but....when I stop th car, I have to wait for the lonely aircon cooler doing its best to cool the water down.

Of course, he fails to do the job, as the aircon cooler prevents any air flow to reach the main cooler.
The temperature is going slowly up....and up....and up....I'm afraid of overheating,so I restart the engine for a while, so that water pump can circulate coolant...and then wait again.....and then restart the engine again.....

In a hot weather it takes 15-20 minutes !
In a cold weather it takes a bit less.

Dear friends

The red arrow below shows FRONT of the vehicle.

A (aircon fan #1, driver's side) :
does not work (...though he DID work on the bench, when removed lately)

B (aircon fan #2, passenger side) :
works alone

C (switch) :
brand new (temperature range the same as that of the old one)

D (main fan) :
does not work (...though he DID work on the bench, when changing the switch a few days ago)

Fuses : O.K.

Relays : tested, O.K.

So what next ???????
A broken wire ????

Fuse removed

Still doing that

Accelerator pedal pushed down

Everything is O.K.

Fuse back

Still O.K.

Seems it was just the pedal !!!

Much ado for nothing !
( ...well, a stuck pedal is not "nothing", but I'm pretty happy I'm not forced to remove anything again... )

Thanks for the reply ( ...and thanks to NASA for lending me their high-tech computer to create those schematic diagrams :O)

For a while it worked O.K., i.e. at startup went up to 2000rpm, and then smoothly and evenly down to normal idling....... :

Now it works like this  ( TC light is ON and OFF during this uncertain period ) :

Does this mean the Idle Control Valve should be cleaned again ( or more thoroughly ) ?

Anyway : ABS ECU was removed ( wiring off ) then back after renewal.

Does this mean anything ?

What if ABS and TC lights are ON when driving, but OFF when just idling in the garage.

I'm getting a bit nervous....

Some say :
"No need to worry, it's flat battery...."

Others say :
"Start worrying my friend, your ABS ECU has gone...."

It's just the first few testing kilometres after renewal.
Before doing the job ABS worked O.K.

Omega General Help / Re: Exhaust blow
« on: 22 April 2012, 09:04:26 »
No, this time it's not the typical camshaft cover-leaking-so-oil-drops-down-to-hot-manifold problem.
I checked with a mirror, all clean and dry :

I also checked the exhaust manifold from underneath the car , again : pretty clean and dry :

I re-tightened the SAI rubber hose,too (brand new) :

Now, the problem seemed to be caused solely by some small amount of oil, coming out of the gap between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe :

After cleaning it and carefully re-tightening the nut, the problem seems to be solved. :y

Well, I know there are lots of questions/answers about this...sorry, I just don't have the patience to read them all.... :)

V6, brand new head gaskets, exhaust manifolds renewed, everything clean, flat, manifold nuts tightened to the specified torque, etc....

Still, at first start, smoke is visible after a few seconds.....seems to come up from underneath the exhaust manifold....
I know some reasonable amount of smoke is expectable after renewal....but this amount looks too much.

I read about tightening both ends of the SAI rubber hole ....I'll check that, too.

The exhaust manifold nuts seem pretty hard to reach.
Can (should) they be re-tightened without removing 1000000000000 other things ? (already at specified torque!)

Omega General Help / Re: Cooler - which type shall I buy ?
« on: 18 March 2012, 06:23:24 »
Sorry guys...but too much ...AFAIK.... and... I thought.... and.... as far as I remember  :)

Does anyone have in his pocket a sentence containing any of these words ? :

...that's for sure !
...do this !
...do that !

 :)

Mine's 2,5litre , petrol, with aircon.

Omega General Help / Cooler - which type shall I buy ?
« on: 16 March 2012, 14:05:26 »
There are two types of cooler I could buy for my Omega B :

(the blue arrows stand for rubber hoses)

I have aircon....but I have the one    WITHOUT   those 21mm outputs.

There's a small pump that helps coolant to circulate, it is at the end of HEATER HOSES(going to heater matrix), under expansion tank :

When I buy a brand new cooler, shall I buy one WITH those extra outputs and two more hoses and that extra aux pump ? (please note : I DO have aircon!)

Or is that pump (that I already have) enough ?

If I buy the one WITH the extra pump :
 - Where that pump should be attached ?
 - How does its wiring connector look like ? I'm not even sure if I have that one at all.

"...I'd like to find a oval bung aswell please if anyone has one?..."

I think I'll just cut them out of a flat piece of rubber and simply fix them from outside using some gasket master paste, that bears heat.
