yea the later model was 16 valve iirc it was omly 94/96 when they used 8 valve same engine as carlton  :y

It was detuned from Carlton :(

Another myth!

It was the (X)20SE engine with 115 Bhp......as per the Carlton which never got the higher output 130Bhp unit used in the Cavalier and Astra.

You do sometimes see differences quoted but, the KW output is the same but , different versions of HP (DIN etc) are used giving different figures  :y

Without more context, this question is rather like asking what the best shoes to buy are..

Absolutely. Depends on your requirements. Sandals or walking boots?

None of them are really bad news, apart from a neglected 2.5TD, I'd say. They'll all do seious mileage if looked after. All of them will give you some niggles. Which one's right for you depends on your requirements / wallet.

I have the 2.5 v6 manual.

I dont think the previous owners showed as much care and affection as I have.

My ave fuel cons - 18 to 21mpg!

I know its a v6, but i would expect a little more.

As some previous posts say, it all depends on the prev owners.

That goes a long way towards explaining what Mrs. KW is up to.  ::)

What about handbags? Do they count double?

My Carlton was 122 I think definately more than 115 - which was the 1.8 injection power and the 2.0s were definately quicker.

The 122 figure was an approx DIN figure, which converts to 120 of the old horses less a little due to the cat (C an X varients which was also fitted to the later Carltons anyway!) gets you to the 115.

There were a few 1.8's fitted to the Carlton:

18SEH (injection)
18SV (carb)

Will need to check my book when I get home on those two......

I thought PS were slightly larger than bhp.

No cats on the Carlton.

I had it just after the Sunbeam and it was slower accelerating but definately more powerful - the Sunbeam was around 115bhp.

last carltons had cats!   3.0v6 for me, it gets used very hard and fast including the brakes and puts a lot of more newer cars to shame, not bad for a 10yr old car, like the old granarda/scorpio german build quality good and still better than some of the cr*p we have on the roads today! :y
