I can only comment on what i have, it has to be the v6 varients, 2.5 or 3.0 v6's. This tread will be more aimed at those who have owned more than one type of omega. :y

I'm quite happy with my 2.2, lot easier to work on than a V6, engine compartment wise.

depends on your needs regarding power/economy and to an extent what type of journeys you usually do.

Best engine for power/economy is the 2.5 V6 with a manual gearbox.

Most cars have inherent niggles of some form (except small/mid size Toyotas maybe..)

The key is picking one that has been properly looked after before to minimize (not eliminate) the periodic maintenance.

Smartest piece of advice I ever received about cars...

"A car is only as good as it's previous owners"

I thought my 2.0l estate was out of this world until I got the 2.6l. Now that is some engine, and I believe the 3.0l's are even more exciting.
Well worth the pecuniary pain.

Without doubt .. none whatsoever... it can only be...

3.2 V6

The 2.5 in the old beast was good, very good, but this is just another dimension ... :)

I haven't stopped grinning for 2 months now  :)

I've not had a diesel so can't comment but i've had all the old petrol engines and indeed all were good at something!  :)

My first was the 2.016V, with a manual box it was a screamer! Big smiles and great for round town as well. Can't remember fuel figures or anything but think it was similar to the v6s i've had since! It did have to work hard I suppose, although as the car was a Select (read sooo basic - even wind up windows in the back!), this probably made it lighter too!

When i moved onto a 3 litre v6, with an automatic as well, the noise was the first impression  :) 8-) :y. and the effortless motorway driving. it thought nothing of overtaking - even with a caravan apparently!

Now I'm onto the 2.5v6 with a manual and find it often to be as quick as the 3.0, slightly more economical (just) and quite capable with loads too. My only gripe is on the motorway, 5th gear seems pointless. shame it wasn't geared to drop more than 400 revs!

I wonder about giving it more power, not sure if that's because i find it slower or just know that it is less powerful than the 3litre!  :-/

There's also something about having a burbly v6 rather than a 16v lump that astra's get too.... 8-)

Vectra Elite Estate doing good post-Omega service but still not as nice to sit in.

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!
