Exhaust ...sigh
« on: 28 February 2012, 09:22:28 »

Mines fubar, been patched, but it won't last long.

GM are out, too expensive for what they are.

There's Eternal car, but I'd prefer something that lasts a bit longer if possible.

Jetex list a cat back system for 3.2 saloon, but it's over £500 and I probably don't need the back box anyway.

Anyone else know of any other manufacturer that makes omega exhausts?

Yeah there's a complication with hand made, noise issues aside, I have yet to fit irmscher back box and bumper and would want that in place prior to hand made being fitted.
But I can't do that because mines so fragile it would fall to bits leaving nothing to clamp on to. I could probably get round that with some faffing, but it would be easier and cheaper to fit irmscher bumper and back box, with exhaust mid sectionson on the drive job done.

I also spoke to Jetex, their mid sections won't fit anyway as they use a 63.5mm bore. What's on the car now is 50.5 according to my vernias, so would have to reduce the mid section ends down to fit the irmscher rear box.
Although I've just noticed they do custom fit, so might be able to alter thier mid section ends then post them out. Still £300 plus vat just for mid sections though. :-\

Whatever you decide, it must be twin pipe all the way through as GM designed it otherwise you may get the performance issues we have witnessed before ;)

Apparently the Jetex system is a direct replacement, i.e. twin pipes, and pretty good. I know I'm considering similar ;) Although that depends if I can get a decent quote from Longlife

Yeah they are about that I guess, as the vat has gone up since I got mine on the previous car. The cost isn't the issue so much, it's the fact that GM no longer make it to the original spec. So they don't last anywhere near as long as the original system. Comparable life to Eternal car in fact, which costs 1/3 of the GM price.

Fair enough :y

FWIW I bought mine in Feb 2010 and 135k, now on 202k and no issues inspite of the car sitting unused from July 2010 through to Feb 2011.

Was gen VX but not sure of the spec :-\ p/n: 093181163  £111.20 Ctr Pipe
                                                                  093181160   £97.60 Ctr Pipe
                                                                  093192233   £94.40 Back Box (Estate)

Above included 20% discount, but works out at approx £240 for the Centre Pipes with VaT and no discount. :y

Just tried to ring Eternal car again, as they only appear to list one side of the centre section, and no double exit tail pipe, but they won't answer the phone. What sort of business is that. Been trying since Friday.

Chris,

Not sure if it'll help you out, but if you're really stuck and want something to get you by, I have a complete standard twin exhaust system (single back box outlet) for a v6.

It's a used item, but like I say, may help you out in the short term.  I'd have to send it via carriar though as I'm not local to you.

Let me know if you're interested?

I've had my Eternal on for over 2yrs, and given how it looks/sounds now, I'm expecting at least another 2yrs from it, maybe more. Hard to tell, as they rot inside out.

Genuine GM (old style, high quality) lasted me around 5yrs.

One of my annoyances are droney exhausts, hence I will replace mine with eternal. Its a known quantity, and is cheap.

As for dealing with eternal, its egay shop only. Wasting your time to call them, they won't tell you anything.

I'm in the same boat. I have a droney, boomy exhaust that I have moaned so much about. Longlife haven't got back to me with a price so I tried again but chose a different branch. Can't justify the £500 Jetex want  :-\

Let us know what you go for

I'm going to (when I can find some money!) fit an Eternal exhaust, Stainless one currently is too droney at motorway speeds.
