I was curious but couldnt find a net answer, is "no ip directed -broadcast" default on cisco routers ?

Depends the vintage of the IOS.

If you have it enabled I suggest you think about using some ACL's!

IP directed broadcasts should be disabled by default as that is a requirement of the IEEE spec.......and given Cisco's staff wrote most of the layer three ones...

thanks Mark..  :y

from what I see (I did some search) new models have this property enabled by default.. old models not.. but no detailed info on  which models which year.. :-\

Mmmm, not to spec and not liked by most operators either as its easy to flood a network using such schemes!

sorry I caused misunderstanding..

original parameter is "no ip directed -broadcast" if you enable it , there wont be any broadcast towards a specific ip , so it must be enabled :y

Hi Cem,
this was disabled by default in IOS 11.3 iirc and is disabled in all versions since. this was done to reduce dos attacks using the directed broadcast as a reflector. It is starting to be enabled in a lot of places again as it is a required function to allow wake on LAN across subnet boundaries.

cheers
