Yup, previous market was the company car fleets. But now thats all emissions based, small little engines in medium sized cars are the choice now.

Also given GM's current money flow issues, can't see the Omega being reborn any time soon

Nobody would desire one with a Vx/Opel badge, so it will never happen.

yep.. a sad fact.. and looking at the current economic climate I dont give it a chance for at least 5 years or  GM is sold ..


besides GM thinks selling cheapo crap cars is the new trend which is definitely wrong and tearing their last pieces of image..

today when I go to market for buying some bread and breakfast stuff, it was very interesting to see street is full of Toyota and Hondas.. Why Turkish customers prefer them is obvious..  Japanese cars got the image of building reliable cars  which they didnt have long years ago.. and they were nearly selling 0 cars at the time.. now even with high prices and expensive parts our customers choose them.. and opel sales have dropped substantially in the last 5 years..

and one more thing middle segment is shifting to japanese cars.. their increase in sales is really impressive..


a brand new Yaris here is approx 15K£ and people without doubt go and buy them..

one friend last week decided to pay approx 19K£ for a diesel Auris and I was really shocked when I hear their prices

As I said many times most people will buy anything as long as it is new they are not bothered

   Any more news about the chinese or VW buying GM europe? I know Anglea merkle was talking to VW as the German government had put a lot of money in to keep GM going and didnt want the chinese to grab it.  Keith B

noyou are not getting old, when bmc was making cars austin ,morris. & riley cars were   nearly the same to look at with different badges.

They've AlWAYS looked the same!

Most thirties cars can only be distinguished by the radiator grille.

Look at the 'difference' between a Peugeot and a Farina Austin/Morris in the fifties.

How about a Supeminx and a mk1 Cortina? Early sixties.

Triumph 2000 and Volvo 144? Mid sixties.

Hillman Hunter and  mk2 Cortina? Late sixties.

Mk3 Cortina and a Ventora? Early/mid seventies

Mk2 Cavalier and mk5 Cortina?

Nova, Polo and Fiesta?

Honda Accord and F/L Omega?

By the time you've packaged the mechanical parts, added an interior and the applied the style of the day, then they're bound to look the same.

Compare the square Lincoln Continentals of the sixties with a smilar aged Fiat or Alfa. Only real difference is the size.
