On a busy road, which is worse?
« on: 11 March 2012, 08:54:09 »

The cyclists who ride two abreast (having a nice chat), or the woman driver who refuses to overtake them, even when there is half a mile of clear road in front and she is being 'encouraged' by the half a mile queue behind?
I waited for ages and, I know I shouldn't, but went past her and the bikes. This is in my 0-60 in 14 secs mummy bus, so she obviously had plenty of room. Of course, once I did it, the flood gates opened. Bet she was shittin herself. ;D

I get wound up by that two, as well as though cyclists that seem to believe that red lights and other road markings, do not apply to them  >:(

Don't have a problem with cyclists running the lights personally. Provided they give pedestrians right of way obviously. :)

Try telling that the poor sod driving through on a green, nearly taking out the cyclist going across the front of him ???

I'm not against cyclists, I do ride occassionally AND I ride motorbikes, so been on the other side of the fence ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

As I said to the cyclist when having a argument about riding 3 a breast. When you pay road tax you can ride like that. There is however something far worse than cyclist. So dark and scary. It's the "Old hag horse rider" You know the ones I mean. Majority of gee gee riders are pretty cool but this one can cause cars to stop running just with a mild stare. Living right on the edge of the New Forest I have to deal with these on a weekly basis. They ride like they own the road and if you find two of them riding together you might as well turn round and find another way

I was thinking pedestrian crossing tbh.

... but on the other hand from your point, I don't see a problem with a cyclist crossing if there's nothing coming, any difference to a pedestrian crossing if safe to do so. There's nothing to stop a pedestrian, or to stop a cyclist following the pedestrian.

The way I see it, rightly or wrongly, cyclists and pedestrians are one and the same.

Don't think there's any legal reason why they can't ride any number abreast, is there?
I find it extremely ignorant behaviour personally, but they have every right to be there.

And as for horses, they should use the footpath where available IMO. But again, every right to be there.

Pedestrians & cyclists the same?  IMO, I can't see how that can be. If you ride on the road, EVERYONE should abide by the rules of the road.  Some cyclists, usually hardcore, can do a good speed 30-40mph. At this point, what is the difference then to a motorcyclist? Yes, he has an engine, but 30mph on a pushbike or motorbike is gonna hurt. The motorcyclist just can't go through red lights or ignore road instructions?

Like I said, just IMO :P ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I thought the highway code says cyclist must be in single file. Me and a mate were doing "CHiP" riding on our motorbikes on the M27 and got a right good bollickin from Plod for being to abreast in the same lane

It's a very long time since I read the highway code (1982 to be precise), but if memory serves me correctly I remember it saying something about being no more than 2 abreast. Also can't remember whether the actual wording was "must not" or "should not".

I'm not surprised plod wasn't impressed, a motorcycle is moderately wider & heavier than a treader and moves considerably quicker which means less chance of correcting any minor errors if a mistake is made.

Go on then, I will ask what was so urgent that you had to get by rather than bide your time? What did you do with the time you saved?

Had you not got music, thought of the day, texts to send or perhaps solitude to do some contemplation.

I was in Kingston the other day, retard cyclists jumps the red lights without looking, causing the car who's right of way it was to slam the anchors on. Cyclists gives the driver a mouthful  >:(

I toyed with jumping red light myself, catching the cyclist, and mowing the tosspot down. Then reversing over him. We have too many retards on this earth.
