Trying to Replace 2.5 V6 Waterpump
« on: 21 June 2012, 18:53:10 »

Hi waterpump broke and i need to replace it. i have removed three screws but it does not appear to want to come out. Trying to do this without removing the cambelt cover so its difficult to see whats going on.
Have i released all the screws? any reason why the pump does not want to come out? i have tried hitting it but it doesn't seem to move at all, and i dont want to damage anything other than the faulty pump.

Any advice greatly appeciated!

I've done mine on the 2001 V6 but I had the timing belt covers off. The water pump generally needs tapping with a rubber or protected hammer,  sometimes needs a bit of a whack. Oil the seal sealing ring before refitting and clean the block well before offering up the new pump. I'm going to get slated here, happens every time I respond to anything! Cheers!

Remove cam belt cover.
Whack hard with a good sized copper hammer - may need a couple of hard whacks - will then probably fly off  :y

thx Noel and allen25  :)
i did start to remove the timing belt cover, but it didnt look as if it would come out without taking a lot of stuff off. I tried removing the tensioner pulley and some electrical leads, but it was still pretty wedged in, so i decided to persevere with it loose.
i guess i just wanted to double check there was nothing other than the 3 screws i removed, holding the pump in place, before i continued hitting it to try and release it.
if there is an easy way of getting rid of the timing belt cover, i'd be glad to hear how to do it, it would certainly make this a lot easier.

i'll look to see if i can find out what needs removing to get it out. Looked tight behind power steering pump, and a load of harnesses attached too.

Slacken bolts on water pump pulley, remove aux belt, remove tensioner, water pump pulley, power steering pulley and crank pulley then cam belt cover off

if your already at the point where youve got to the water pump and removed te three screws its easy from there. 15Mm on the aux belt tensioner. Turn clock wise. Pull belt off. Release tension. Slackened off pullies. Undo four cover screws. Your there. I love knocking the water pump off. Last time i didnt drain the coolant on purpose as i love to see the block drain. Weirdness i know :-)
