I have been under the chronic pain team at my hospital for the last 18months now. 8 weeks ago i had an appt for my right shoulder which i am in agonizing pain. consultant said to me i should go to my gp's for another injection in it which the hospital did last yr. went to my doctors and was told it needs to be done at hospital as it has to be guided in by ultrasound. finally got my appt yesterday and had ultrascan and was told i need to go back to my doctors and get referred to an orthapeadic surgeon. i got so annoyed and demanded an answer why you are pecking me about. consultants reply. "we've been told to keep referring people elsewhere as we have no money to treat people" 18months I've been shuffled about different dept and still haven't had my shoulder sorted out. what a disgraceful state this country is in

tbh richie that seems to be the way of the nhs..3 years i had been in pain with my leg/hip.. pushed from pillar to post it got a bit like this weel we will try this...well last year i had had enough...and like you did'nt get arsey with g.p but was firm and i asked why it was not diagnosed and sorted...that was in the setember...by feb of this year i had been x rayed 4 times cortozone injections and seen an orthopediac consultant...did get the answer i wanted...osteo arthritus but when i asked why it took sooo long the consultant replied....cost

should be about people and pain...not poxy balance sheets and acccountants...

that's it. i planned on going back to work on a 10 week job Tuesday.I've no chance now. my gp is going to call me at 1pm to see what he can do now. im tempted to go back and batter the general manager for what they keep doing to me. they must of forgot what they did to me last yr

last yr mine was guided in to the places that were the problem. the following day i was on the golf course. i can't wait to get my balls out again

Sadly, until the link between treating patients and the hospital getting paid for this is established, NHS will always be a very, very poor but expensive to taxpayers system. Russia proved such command systems don't work, but politicians perpetuate the myth it is the best system in the world. In that case why do no other countries use such a system and why is the French system with a similar % of GDP spent so much better?

I've fortunately always had good health (touch wood), but friends and relations that have need treatment, the thing I notice is how long and drawn out the treatment is as you go through multiple appointments, with a 6 week delay between each of them. When my ex-wife had major back problems, it took a year to get it sorted out by this method, which meant much pain for 12 months and she couldn't work during this time. My dog gets a much service and treatment at our local vets.

Just shows what retards and fools the politicians are that rule us, where they defend the indefensible and continue with a very expensive white elephant called the NHS.

had similar with blood pressure bloody nightmare must have tried every pill and had every side effect ended up with hives in the end. sent me to a consultant and he was as much use as a handbrake on a boat prescribed the same pills i had just had a serious reaction too gp is just as bad he actually asks me what pills i havwe taken in the past  becuase hes to lazy to check my records.Got absolutly nowhere with the consulatant he refered me back to gp and he actually told me he did not know what to do. so prescribed betablockers bugger me thought i was going to die everytime i lifted something or worked...dont take anything now and feel so much better blood pressure is still on the high side

I've had two cortisone injections in my right shoulder. Done by my GP.

The stupid thing is that the cost isnt realy there.

The facilities, staff, buildings etc all ahev to be paid for and hence it should be more a case of focusing on maximum utilisation of using the resources there.....not shofting wooden dollars.

when i had it done in rheumatology dept.they said gp not allowed to do it...liars

My gp has been in touch with the hospital and complained of the treatmenti have received and are investigating it.

I've been getting the same up here... Saw the GP yesterday and we decided that, as my back has been getting progressively worse again over the last 12 weeks or so, I should go back and see the surgeon again to discuss options. It may be another bout of injections, it may be surgery

So, armed with the number from the GP I rang yesterday morning to be rudely told by a surly secretary that I had to be referred again. The surgeon told me at my last appointment (September last year) that my referral would be held open for 12 months. The GP was under the same impression. She said that it was werong and I shouldn't have been told that and then hung up!

This on top of them still not returning my MRI DVD which is my property because I had it done privately The only (potential) plus side is that the GP thinks that the spinal team went to "Choose and Book" this month so I should get seen quicker Perhaps the secretary thinks her days may be numbered now

I'll certainly be lodging a complaint, but not until I know how long I'm going to be waiting for an appointment Looks like I'll be back at the bottom of a 20+ week waiting list again, by which time (at the current rate of deterioration) means I'll barely be able to walk by the time I'm seen again

well I've been a bit surprised today - went to register at the GP.  process was painless, and I asked how appointments work - said they're available up to a month in advance.  I guess they're trying to get patients in.....

having said that, I do agree on the appointment system.  trouble is it ends up diverting money into running the booking system instead of treating people

NHS will never be perfect and it will always be overstretched but let's hope it will improve

That's great but if they are anything like my GP you need to book your appointment 3 weeks in advance

"Hello? Yes, I'll be ill in 3 weeks time... Can I have an appointment please?"
"Unfortunately we don't have any until 5 weeks on Monday"

Other option is to call at 8:30 and take an emergency appointment which involves everyone who has booked through this route turning up at 11 and waiting... Normally a couple of hours

But, at least we do get to see doctors........
