My eldest just got caught speeding on the motorway, basically the scenario is, motorbike up his arse, Golf in the third land, and the two other lanes are completely free of traffic. Anyway Golf moves over he goes past then slows back down. The bike behind him turns out to be an unmarked police bike. Basically it shows him doing from 80-90 MPH for the duration, then when he passes the Golf he got up to 103 for a couple of seconds then he slows back to around 85 MPH. They've said to him they've got to send it off to the court so they decide what to do. He could obviously receive a ban for this, is it likely he will?

How close Del, may be relevent in mitigation  ;)

That's exactly what I said  :y, but my son came back with "I've done it, can't do nothing about it now, it's not worth the hassle".

All IMHO, but not worth arguing in court... There's video evidence so he's bang to rights ::)

Best bet is to show remorse and show reasons not to lose the license :-\

Again, just IMHO ;)

i was once in court for leaving the scene of an accident, the annoying thing is i got free advice from my insurance company that said i didnt have to report the accident(i knocked a wall down)because details were exchanged between the owner.my employer at the time wrote me a blinding letter of my character and the need for my license to help him with the business and the court awarded me the maximum points they could give without disqualifying me and to pay costs.i know the scenario is different but a letter from his boss could go a long way

That ain't gonna work. Speeding is speeding. Just because someone is close behind, it does not mean you are obliged to drive faster

I got reported for 104MPH on the M1 by an unmarked plod a few years ago and went to court, apologised said " All my fault won't do it again blah Blah" 3 points £60 fine, RESULT :y :y It all depends who's on the bench I'm afraid, no point bullshiting or pleading hardship, he did it therefore pays the penalty :(

fine will be earnings related I would assume. maybe worth using a solicitor. When my son got done for 93 on M4 he copped for £800 despite turning up and grovelling.

Seems as though if you plead guilty the police do not enter any further evidence at court - so if you have pleaded guilty and pitch up with a solicitor to plead mitigating circumstances the bench have nobody interested in contesting your story - can result in big reduction in potential fine.

Or Mark Milton of West Mercia Police. Jack Straws chauffeur etc etc ::) ::) >:( >:(

One of my bro's got off with 6 points and a stonking fine for doing 118mph a few years back. He had a letter from his then boss, a well known ex-F1 team principal, stating character, and how he was trained in high performance cars. He did seriously kiss the judges arse, which I think is the only way forward.

Expect a ban. Anything less is an extreme bonus.
