If the OP has oil fired heating it's not that far fetched... They are stupidly expensive ;)
in the loft? sounds like normal british gas malarky to me

So, let's say £1k for the boiler. Flushing the system and a like for like replacement can't take more than 2 days for a decent plumber, I'd have thought. If 3K's the going rate for 2 days' work as a plumber I'm in the wrong job here! ;D

That said, my neighbour has been trying to get someone out to change a motorised valve. they've all knocked off for Christmas round here. No ruddy surprised! >:(

You could do that for them Kev...its a doddle.....if I can do it anyone can !!!!!!!! :y

Not quite the same....but the variation is...I sent out tenders to 9 decorating companies for the Centre....£3000 to £9000 were the results  :o

Not for an oil fired boiler, surely.

Have you tried Railtrack? ;D

Boiler fitting is hardly difficult and being in Nottingham its a fair bet its gas. The parts are sub a grand for a good one and one to two days fitting

Last boiler I replaced (for Mrs TBs dad, when the heat exchanger on the old one sprang a leak), cost about £600 all in, and done in a day and a half, including replacing all components (timer/valves/stats), and some electrical and pipe reworking.

BG are expensive - I think my parents paid around £4k for theirs, though that included moving the boiler from the kitchen to the garage, and replacing half the radiators..

I paid ~£2200 for;
Chemically clean heating system & flush; Replace boiler; Replace programmer and room thermostat; Replace programmer and room thermostat; Remove hot water cylinder.
Fit Magnaclean
Remove old shower, repair tiling, install new hot & cold feeds for shower and fit new shower valve.
Replace faulty radiator in bedroom.
Re-pipe incorrectly fitted towel radiator in ground floor shower room.

Took him the best part of a week as new bodges by the previous owners kept appearing  ::)

Unfortunately the closest plumber I know to Notts is in York, which isn't much help to the OP..

You can buy boilers here for a similar price Cem, but it's the fitting that costs!!! Having said that I had a boiler replaced last winter for £800 (TRY 2300? :-\ )

yep .. :y

Thats expensive and i bet they are using the fact its so close to christmas to inflate there prices.

my dad is a heating enginneer in coventry and his prices are very competative. he couldnt comment on how much it would cost for sure but he says 4 K is supid money.

He is always snowers with work this time of year he works 12 hour days to keep his client base happy and he hates making people wait without heating although he will attempt to get there same day if it elderly or someone with young children. This year is very busy for some reason. he works christmas eve and boxing day for emergencies and i know mother monitors the phone xmas day!

you need to find out what wrong with your old boiler to get you through xmas look at getting someoil heaters they arnt expnsive and are not to expensive to run ether.
