In the UK we no longer have capital punishment.
She has been sentenced to life imprisonment. So, what does that ACTUALLY mean ?? .. and not by random guesses/ quotes from tabloids.
Under UK law it means she is imprisoned until she dies UNLESS a parole board decides she can be released. The Judge must stipulate at the time of sentence the minimum term she has to serve before she is ELIGIBLE for parole. Being eligible does not automatically imply she will get parole.
The Criminal Justice Act 2003 did many things ...among others .... a) It removed from politicians (mainly the Home Secretary) the right to set their own "minimum terms" b) In order to both guide judges, and give a degree of "standardisation", it set out the minimum terms for various Criminal Acts, c) it provides that if a Judge deviates from these guides he must explain why d) it allows the Appeal Courts to both raise and lower the minimum term "on appeal", and e) Only the Appeal Courts can change the minimum term.
So, under UK Law she has been found guilty and sentenced to Life Imprisonment and the Judge has stipulated she must serve 17 years before she appears before a Parole Board.
Yes.. that IS justice because it is EXACTLY what the Law of the United Kingdom demands.
It might not suit the vigilantes who want her hung, and it might not suit the loveydoveys who want her released as she must be ill...
but it IS what is proscribed by the Law of our Land.
