True, but unfortunately the people at the top of the service combined with the increasingly militant and arrogant union federation representing the lower ranks have done so much damage to the relationship with the people they are supposed to be serving, there is at least as much negative as positive in peoples minds these days.
When we have reached the point where fed reps and their members can succesfully conspire in a totally corrupt fashion to destroy the career of an elected politician, then the service/force is in deep trouble and needs to change a hell of a lot to regain the respect of the public.
Disbanding/outlawing the federation would be a good start imo.Its is what Thatcher used to refer to as "the enemy within".

Starting salary reduced from 23,500 to 19,000 for new recruits with no previous experience.

Specials or PCSO's who are later accepted as full time PCs will start on 22k.

Existing serving plod are not affected and remain on the old payscales - however can take longer to get to the top of their scale.
Can`t see anything wrong with that figure. Very good for a "raw" employee IMO

no and that is what being, anyone WITHOUT police experience is being paid £19,000 pa....which is good money...anyone WITH police experience be it PCSO,TRAFFIC WARDEN.OR SECURITY GUARD you will be starting  on £ 22,000

Not trying to be pedantic by any means whatsoever (honestly) but, Security guards don't have "police experience" by any stretch. From what I have read - I don't think the new proposals would include traffic wardens or security guards. Traffic wardens (or civil enforcement officers as they are now called!) I think are mostly employed by councils. Security guard is not an occupation associated with policing, and security guards from outside organisations certainly wouldn't qualify (Security guards and the office of constable are totally incompatible in most circs). The only possible exception MIGHT be reliance custody suite staff - but I can't find any refence to this in what's available online.

I'm pretty sure it's just specials and PSCOs that qualify.

For the record - from what I've read (which is all I know) - I don't entirely disagree with the proposals. But I also see STMO's point.

Intersting debate :y :y

19K is a very good starting wage for a green new starter.

Its not like the Police force struggle to attract people either so a good move I say.
