Closer than a geostationary satellite! So .. that's pretty close, then.

Maybe it'll take out some of Sky's babies on the way through ;D

That had occurred to me: how far out do our satellites orbit the Earth?  Could it take out the Sky satellites?  Thank God I use BT vision via an aerial! ::) ::) :D :D :D ;)

Geostationary orbit is ~22,000 miles above sea level at the equator - which is where Sky, communications and so on live. There's plenty of other stuff between the earth and that point, though (and higher) - lots of tasty targets to hit!

Maybe if it nudges it a bit Ralf will get a better signal  ;D

Pretty much no comms are via satellite these days (apart from the rare useage of sat phones) so no worries there

"The impact of a 50-meter asteroid is not cataclysmic--unless you happen to be underneath it."

Would the world governments tell their people if the asteroid was going to skim the earths surface - lets say Tashkent?

No. There would be mass panic.

I am still waiting for the "more info". ;D ;D

The BBC said this morning it is tonight. Absolutely no info on where to look and when for whom. Most strange ::)

Anyone know?

That was  impressive, and a very rare example of humans being hurt by a meteor. :o :o

This has nothing to with the asteroid.

You are probably right. I was watching it on the news and they did say it wasn't the same one as in the OP but its a coincidence that this one hit the same day as the other was predicted

That is how I saw it.  The asteroid is something else, but this meteor shower was very unusual in the way it has damaged property and injured up to 500 people.  It is extremely rare for this to transpire as usually they fall into the sea or in uninhabited areas of the World, with the meteorite if ever found, another rarity, being just a small rock. :y
