Well that saves a trip to the doctors. Every time I've eaten a Findus Lasagne, my throat felt a little horse afterwards.  ::) :o ;D ;D ;D ;D

Meat is meat. As we all remember, years ago it was cats and dogs in the fridge at the local chinese. We're all still here.

STMO you have obviously eaten at the chinese about 2 miles from here....when the enviromental health done a spot check about 9 years ago they found 2 german shepards hanging in the deep frezzers....enjoy your wun tuns ???
When I was a teenager, my local chippy was done for pissing in the fryers.

3 or 4 years later, a curry house I used to frequent was done "spitting" in the pans...  ...always wondered wh their curry was so creamy ::)

"spitting" was not saliva :o

When I was in the army nick in Colchester there was a cook in there. He was a fat, horrible bastard and he got lots of abuse from the squaddies he was cooking for. I'm not gonna tell you how he got his revenge.

Its not the horsemeat as such, its the lack of traceability, how do you know dobbin wasnt on anitbiotics or painkillers?

british scourced meat should be tracable back to the farm and individual animal.
as said if supermarkets push the prices down, suppliers will buy from dodgy sources.

What do people expect? The product is very cheap. Clearly no ethics involved. Innefectual food testing.

There was a programme on the other day showing "end of life" horses being butchered not in accordance with rules. A horse charity was trying to buy them to preserve their lives, traders were buying them to knowing flog them into the food chain. Just what else is getting in unknown? Terrorist charter? There is a concern Bute gets into humans.

Now a practical question. I have been advised by Findus to retrun the product I bought for a refund. Will they also pay my travel expenses?  ;D ;D

PS Avoid any food containing a product called filler......................

Exactly.. With supermarkets turning the thumb screws ever tighter manufacturers will do whatever they can get away with to preserve some sort of margin on the products they produce. Clearly, until very recently, they have been able to get away with putting anything that can loosely be defined as "meat", as in a bit chopped off an animal, or swept up off the floor of an abattoir, into a product described as beef.

If you care what you're eating, support your local butcher instead. :y

There is concern around a drug given to horses - known as bute (phenylbutazone) - which is dangerous if taken by humans  :(

....is it likely to cause a dose of the trots? ::)

That brings back memories of the Chinese near where I lived in Evington. Ordered meal, went to collect it. The door from the waiting area opened accidentally. There was the spitting image of Budha stripped to the waist, sweating profusely stirring this enormous cauldron of pea soup (essence of all chinese dishes- who knows). His stick was the size of a fence post and had an encrusted ridge of dried on essence of Chinese at half way point. The customer interface point hurredly shut the errant door and called out what I thought was our meal. It wasn't. No idea what it was when I got home. Some other sucker got our wierd selection.

In El Pais (Spanish newspaper)there is an article that says EU horse slaughtering has increased from 30,000 in 2009 to 80,000 in 2012. More than a quarter of these horses are being killed in Andalucia, southern Spain. People can't feed horses in a depression.

Findus horsemeat lasagne came from Romanian horses and moshed up in Luxemburg. One thing for sure this disgusting trade won't be confined to the UK although suppose we will be hearing statements from other EU countries that it doesn't affect them...same as they said when the banks crashed ;D ;D
