OK, does anybody actually know what an 'e-mail client' is? Or is this just another of those meaningless phrases used by techno-nerds to baffle us mere mortals? >:( >:( >:(

I found it in Wikipedia: "An email client, email reader, or more formally mail user agent (MUA), is a computer program used to access and manage a user's email."
So now we all know. It doesn't help me understand my iPhone though. ??? ??? ???

I cery mich doubt it! ::) :D

Although, its much lighter than the 4. And the wider screen helps in safari in landscape mode, with toolbars disappearing with just a little transparent back button in one corner, and an expand button in the other to bring the tool bars back.

So at least I can see that I can't type, but that's fine, as it pisses AndyP and Esta off no end. :y

IME, Android email only works well if using gmail and google apps. Would you trust Google with such access to private info?

Even trying to use bog standard IMAP, there is no usable client out there for Android

Thanks J, but why is it called client? This is one definition I found, which, to me at any rate, is still not clear:
Computers.  a workstation on a network that gains access to central data files, programs, and peripheral devices through a server.

Correct, email is a client - server setup (for most scenarios).

For me what sets it apart is the ability for it to check 6 of my email accounts, collate all the mails in one place (all inboxes) or view them indivdually as I wish, along with managing imap folders well.
Whenever I want to send a mail, I do it all from the same place, in the same client.  Just works as it should.

Trying to do this on Android was a non starter, the default email client only wanted to deal with 1 account at one time, plus run the gmail app to access my google accounts separately, and it wouldnt even collate those few accounts to one place, every inbox had to remain isolated.  extra work every time I wanted to use a mailto link to decide on the sending account and program.

I could only realistically manage 3 of my accounts on my old android whereas my Iphone manages all I throw at it perfectly and in an user friendly manner.

My android was an older version, but when playing with current ones, my issues seem to still exist
