This one looks an honest buy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XJ-V8-4-0-/171011120712?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item27d10e9e48

Yep it does.  As Henry said - a lot of car for the money.  And the seats (they look similar to mine) are extremely comfortable, yet hold you firmly in fast corners.

Also note the spacious interior ;)

Sorry guys I'm a member on that forum - they get a visitor about once a week ::) ::)
Brian is an absolute wingeing rsol, rude to newbies, and some of his posts not helpful.
I tend to go on it once a month and read the 4 new posts. ???

That's a lot of car for little money ::)

It is that  ;) Those seats look really comfy .

The rear seats look awful for anyone who has legs  ;D I never could get over why the S type and X type have such poor rear leg room, I mean for goodness sake my 6 foot tall 17 year old can sit comfortably in the rear of my Astra mk5 with me driving and I am 6 foot 4.

I tend to go on Jaguar Forum.co.uk - much more technical and helpful information available.  Seen Tunnie on there and Dodsy is a member.

Agreed S and X type are both poor for rear leg room - but there's plenty of space in the XJs ;)

Yes joined up after I had a go in Josh's Jag, interested in running and service costs. It's about the only car I felt instantly at home, the central arm rest was just excellent. Just at right place, comfy seat, love long bonnet view, space, sound, ride makes Omega feel like Ford Ka.

Big, big contender for long term replacement.... Although I did drive the later shape than one above

My dad has the 2.0 (2.1 v6) and the only problem he's had in 5 years is a faulty door lock sensor that honks the horn when you lock it, as for servicing the inlet manifold needs to come off to change the 6th spark plug. Go for as high a spec as possible and you'll be happier, the bog standard ones feel a little plasticky.

Oh dear  :( Electrical gremlins scare me off esp gearbox ones  :(

So you mean one of these MR opti

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-P-JAGUAR-XJ-SERIES-SOVEREIGN-4-0-FULL-JAGUAR-SERVICE-HISTORY-/140932248930?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item20d0377562

I thought these had rot issues ? Mr Arron pulled one to bits i think and it was rotten  :-\

Bit late to the party I know, but.. Mine was an XJ40 - the predecessor to that (production stopped in 1994) and, yes, rotten as a pear.. In fact I reckon just about any XJ40 besides a lovingly cared for example is going to be just as rotten by now, and most of the rot was in hidden areas (inner wings where the wiring came through - there were no inner wings anymore! - bulkheads, floorpan.. sills were OK though ;D).

That's an X300, and I don't know much about those other than that they share a lot of mechanicals with the XJ40..

What you really want is a Series car, but they fetch good money now (unless, as previously noted, rotten)..

Diesel X-Types are well known for injector failure and EGR problems, the inlet manifolds fill with soot and get blocked.
