I have been buying the ready mix packets , you just add warm water and chuck the mix in and switch on . Its ok but a bit tasteless  :(

The ready mix are fine unless you feel a little adventurous, it doesn't take long to weigh out 500g of flour, teaspoon of yeast, salt, sugar and 350 ml of water and probably alot cheaper. I think strong white flour in LIDL is 50p, enough for four loaves :y

a 50 50 mix of bread flour and plain flour will make good French bread.  Not without yeast though.   You could try a sourdough i.e. no added yeast, using natural yeast in the air, not sure how it'll work with 100% plain flour.  Also it'll take a lot longer to rise - overnight in a coolish place.

Just get baking and stop worrying  yourself ;) ;D ;D

Biscuits are dry to start with so absorb moisture, cake is moist so dries out. QED :y

Do they eventually meet at a mid-point of moist/dryness and become cascuits? Biskes? Cakuits? ;D
