the country is full of johnny foreigners
A rather sweeping, somewhat racist, statement?
I agree with your rant! Saturday night I spent over an hour in a taxi queue full of foreigners
What's the relevence? Aren't foreign people allowed to catch a taxi?
I know lots of decent hard working people of different ethnic or racial origin, I don't see
the problem with them being in the country or why they should be targeted by these comments?
I'm not at all happy about these statements - especially the "Johnny Foreigner" one.
While I agree there are areas the Government could do things differently, I think speaking in a derogitory fashion towards people of a different background isn't the way to tackle it.
Although Phil was just expressing a rant over everything that is frustrating the people of this country, and I believed his comment about foreigners was aimed at just the
illegal variety, I do agree with you James that foreigners ARE NOT bad for this country. Quite the opposite indeed, with the success of our great country based on its citizens who are, with few exceptions, descendants of centuries worth of immigrants! In addition there are individuals like me, born in Malta, but with English parents and lived and worked in England for the majority of my life. Where do I fit in with the sweeping statement made? Am I, like all such children born abroad from militarily marriages, and others, included in this "foreigners" statement?
The later comments about "Johnny Foriegner" were at least very unfortunate and ill advised, and certainly racist. Whatever was actually meant by these statements it was very wrong and should stop now. I often joke about having a revolution in this country, but we must never go down the route the Germans did between 1933 and 1945, which included rising hatred against the Jews (my family is also of Jewish background).
Everyone legally in this country must be treated fairly as equals within our democratic and legal system.
