In addition there are individuals like me, born in Malta, but with English parents and lived and worked in England for the majority of my life.  Where do I fit in with the sweeping statement made?  Am I, like all such children born abroad from militarily marriages, and others, included in this "foreigners" statement?

Were you born on Crown property?

No.  In a British military hospital but on Maltese land leased to the Crown as I understand it.  I certainly ended up with a Maltese Birth Certificate. and only found out a few years back I had not automatically been registered back in the UK!  That only happened after 1957 and I was born in 1953.  An urgent British registration took place as a consequence. ;D :y

I was born HERE and have a British birth certificate

....and what are you trying to say Martin? :-/ :-/ :-/

It's all a mess, and has been for years....

My grandfather worked for the Foreign Office/Diplomatic Corps and spent most of his working life in India. My mother was born in Calcutta, her sister in Delhi another sister in Lahore etc etc, all in civil hospitals, but with a "Diplomatic Birth Certificate"

My mother was schooled in England - boarding school - and on leaving went straight into the WRAF - it was 2nd world war time. She did time in England, India and Germany, during this time she met/married my father, also in the RAF

Move on 25 years, my father died young, after a few years Mum decides/is persuaded to go on a holiday to Yugoslavia.. but she needs a passport... so we do the paperwork, to discover she is not entitled to a British Passport - in her own right - but can have one if we send in copies of Dad's Birth/Death/Marriage certificates !!!!!

So her father can work for HMG, she can serve during the War, but she can't have a passport except she can as she was "lucky" to marry someone with a passport already !!!!

Madness, utter madness

Mr Entwood unfortunately the Immigration and Borders Agency (as its now called having had another NuLabour relaunch) is awash with examples of this kind of stupidity. What about the loyal Gurkha soldiers now being treat like dirt by our wonderful Government?

Mind you if your wanted by numerous countries around the world and on the terrorist watch list, no problem. Welcome to the UK, passports in the post  ;)

Mark .. I get your point .. but what I described happend in the late 1970's .... :(

It was crap then .. and is still crap ... so called Civil Servants who are NOT civil .. and certainly don't "serve" .. it is/was easier to say "no" rudely than to try and help.

rant over .. sorry

Right Martin, I understand now :y.

The situation is with me is the same as in the case of thousands of children born abroad to British parents whilst serving the Empire.

I was born to English parents (Grandfather one fought in the Royal Navy at Jutland 1916; Grandfather two died on 12th September 1940 in Tunbridge Wells during a German air raid; Grandmother one, East End London girl went through the Blitz; Grandmother two died of a broken heart in Tunbridge Wells in 1945 due to loss of her husband).  Father served from 1940 in the Royal  Navy for 26 years and was posted to Malta in 1951 with my Mother, and I was born two years later.  As stated born in a British Military Hospital, where we were registered under both Maltese and overseas British administration; therefore had dual British and Maltese citizenship.  After 1957 it was automatic for the British Military births to be registered in the UK automatically, but in 1953 this was not so.  Therefore, unknown to my parents, although returning to England in 1954 and subsequently being given official status (Passport, National Insurance No. etc) as a British citizen, due to an official oversight I was not actually registered in the UK, only on the British military register!  Very confusing, but it resulted in UK Passport Office very urgently 'registering' me and providing a new birth certificate retrospectively within three days in 2004.  Although always not only British, but English, to English parents / grandparents / greatgrandparents, etc it has only been properly registered now for a few years! :y :y

This is the type of mess that so many ex-military children have to face if born abroad! ::) ::)

You could be Martin, but I think it all depends on how your registration was handled at the time and what birth certificate documentation you possess now; is it of local origin or British issue?

I just think that as a result, the British Nationals should not take that out directly on people from other origins...

Here is an example of British Nationals taking it out directly on people from other origins:
megahate

I hope this usefully demonstrates how worthless politically-correct euphemisms are.

I also chose that link to illustrate why discussion of problematic foreign influences is legitimate, and should not be distracted by accusations of racism. The UK establishment is paralysed by its "Islington" fear of seeming racist, and thus simply cannot address the fact that a culture profoundly opposed to British traditions is taking root with the stated intention of taking over. Despite open incitement to murder, the police took no action and the UK government condemned the peaceful exercise of free speech in the heart of Europe. This is what happens when people fear being labelled "racist".

It isn’t racist to be opposed to cultural and religious ideas. Unless somebody speaks or acts against a person or persons based specifically on racial/ethnic grounds, leave the "racist" accusations out, please.

It's not an accusation, it's an opinion, and one I will not "leave out" but continue to defend. I have as much right to oppse the comment, as you have to defend it!

Enough is enough! every one has the right to their opinion and nothing said here will change that! We need to agree to differ before people really fall out!
