Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the car mate............  :-[

All that's needed for MOT is 4 tyres, a front ABS sensor, rear brake pads and calliper check, front discs and pads, anti rollbar drop link, new rear brake lines, and an exhaust manifold.

Tyres, brakes and suspension are service items, so For an old banger that's not the end of the world :y

miggy rear brakes --unless regularly cleaned/checked the pads can and do stick to pins--prime location from crud thrown up while driving--dont even mention hand brake--mech can/does seize up=poor hand brake=fail
in my years of miggys had a few h/brake issues as well as imbalance--always lack of maintenance --which can cause major headaches-usually when its freezing cold /raining--

So I guess after 120k in my TD estate, I can expect trouble soon, as I have never touched the handbrake, but it works fine at present. :-\ :-\ :-\

Got to 166k before handbrake in my 2.2 needed servicing, that was due to shoes falling apart  ;D

Handbrake is fine if:

1) Its used (note to those with the infirm option gearbox)
2) Nobody pisses about with the cable
