Coloured Calipers
« on: 29 November 2013, 12:48:21 »

Hi all

I have noticed cars with coloured brake calipers. Questions are.....

Do you buy them in different colours......or

Can you paint them (old or new), and what sort of paint do you need. I would imagine it would need to be heat resistant.

Thanks :y

Place called Big Red that do a full refurbish and then colour coating of your choice so you end up with almost new calipers in your own colour
Not cheap but they do a first class job and everything is coloured and heat resistant

Chavtastic!

Been toying with doing something with TBE's, to hide the rusty/discoloured elements.  Trouble is, on a silver car, red is a bit chavvy, silver would be "too silver" I think. Black?

Grey'ish Black or Dark Blue wouldn't look too bad on a Silver car, me thinks.

They are heat resistant vinyl stickers.  :y

I lacquered over the top to protect them. I did them about ten years ago and they still look like that now.  :y
The paint is mixed with lacquer and goes bullet hard very quick so you only mix enough to do one at a time.

Painting calipers? A bit "metrosexual" if you ask me. :-X

Be warned that I did paint the Westfield's cam cover with Halfrauds "high temperature enamel" and it bubbled up and started flaking off the first time the engine got up to temperature. I know. Serves me right. ::)

This is the stuff that I used. I've only done them once in all that time and they stay a shiny gloss finish.  :y As I said earlier, they have lasted over ten years like this.  :y
