Mini Ice Age?
« on: 18 January 2014, 11:24:15 »

The Sun is being a bad boy and not behaving by fitting all of those useless expensive climate change charts!  :o It has decided to take a rest with virtually no sun spots when they are meant to be at an 11 year solar cycle peak. The last time this happened was at the start of the 17th century mini-ice age.

This means that the earth is probably going to get colder with much colder winters. This will affect the northern hemisphere much more than the southern one and will affect Western Europe most of all.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2541599/Is-mini-ice-age-way-Scientists-warn-Sun-gone-sleep-say-cause-temperatures-plunge.html
(Before the usual suspects complain about the DM link, at least they write about it, not like the IPCC PR department BBC where a large percentage of the article is dedicated to how it doesn't change global warming even though it will make us colder :o :o :o )

Why the surprise? The earth has spent the last 1.6 million years in an ice age (the last time when the polar regions had no ice) and the northern hemisphere has spent the majority of the time including the last 100,000 years in ice ages, with Western Europe, most affected. The Vostok-Petit ice core sample data shows that global temperature and CO2 peaks in short warm periods (like now), have to date, always been followed by a long ice age.  :o :o :o :o

Was chatting to someone about this on Thursday, and we concluded that a series of cold winters correlated to significant volcanic activity...

Krakatoa preceeded a succession of snowy Victorian winters, which coincided with the advent of sending Christmas cards... hence all the pretty snow covered scenes we are so used to, when in reality late January/February are significantly colder than November/December ::)

The arrival Sturtsey in 1963 was most likely precceded by significant amounts of CO2 being released... okay, that one's a bit tenuous ::)

That more recent Icelandic eruption in 2010 preceded another proper winter, certainly we had snow on the ground here from November through to February :-\

As an aside, I wonder what will happen to all those waterlogged new houses that have been built on flood plains hereaboots. If the water level is at or very close to ground level and temperatures drop much below freezing for any length of time, will those house have severe structural issues when the spring arrives :-\

No sunspots?

Must be all those Sun inhabitants driving their Range Rovers causing it. Obviously lack of sunspots is man made...
