Krakatoa preceeded a succession of snowy Victorian winters, which coincided with the advent of sending Christmas cards... hence all the pretty snow covered scenes we are so used to, when in reality late January/February are significantly colder than November/December
The arrival Sturtsey in 1963 was most likely precceded by significant amounts of CO
2 being released... okay, that one's a bit tenuous

That more recent Icelandic eruption in 2010 preceded another proper winter, certainly we had snow on the ground here from November through to February

As an aside, I wonder what will happen to all those waterlogged new houses that have been built on flood plains hereaboots. If the water level is at or very close to ground level and temperatures drop much below freezing for any length of time, will those house have severe structural issues when the spring arrives
