im awaiting when the plumber can come and fit my new supposedly 97% efficient boiler  :y

Don't get a Ferroli TD, the damn things are cheap for a reason!  :(

I have an 8 year old Ferroli condensing boiler which has had loads go wrong with it and I've been fitting some new o rings in it today to fix some water leaks, only to discover that the main heat exchanger has a leak as well.  :'(

A new heat exchanger retails at around £350 :o  so I'm hoping my friendly plumber can fix it!!  ::)

No gas where we are but we pay £49 a month by direct debit for the electricity.

We also have to buy about 2000 litres of heating oil each year......roughly £1100. Additional to this we use some six or seven 47 KG propane bottles for the fire. These cost £52 each, this year. :'( :'(

So in the ballpark of £2200 each year.  :-\

Just asked swmbo and we cannot be certain but I think we were only paying £47 a bottle for our caravan (Static) last year........ :-\ :-\

Does that work out cheaper that Auto LPG then? I remember driving fork lifts with a gas bottle fueling them, so presumably you could use a propane cylinder or even butane...... :-\ :-\

but don't get caught doing it ... Propane in bottles does not have the "Road Duty of 31p/kg" on it  ... so is technically illegal to use in a car .. though just how they would prove it is beyond me ..... a tad tricky to put a red dye in it methinks !!!  :)

Yes, indeed. Was just an idle thought. :y

Not sure it'd be worth the hassle/risk, and I think it would be a tad suspicious for a house with mains gas to be getting through one of those a week. ;)

Fork lift gas bottles are totally different to "normal" ones, as they have a liquid gas takeoff, normal bottles have a gaseous take off ...  :)

Small bottles are horrendously expensive, ok a 47 Kg for £60 is 64 p/litre .. I pay 72p/litre autogas ..  but a 13 kg is £27 ..  £1.04 a litre !!!! and the 6Kg ones are a rip-off .. £21  is £1.75 a litre !!!

So unless you can pick up 47 kg and dump it in the boot .....     :)
