Knackered wipers
« on: 07 February 2014, 08:21:30 »

Had to pop in a new screen for the MOT, I have insurance cover, so went through them. Ended up with Autoglass being assigned to do it. That was hard work to arrange, but thats just because their call centre are just a bunch of useless, thick retards. But thats another story.

Because they can't guarantee a van with some kind of cover onboard so they can work in the wet, nor could they actually provide a sensible date in which to visit to replace the screen (and then not necessarily being able to do it if it was raining, due to no portable shelters, and this couldn't be requested at time of booking) I agreed to take it to my nearest branch, 25 miles away (but fortunately not too far from work :)).

I can't really fault the workmanship, although one wiper needs adjusting a bit. But when they called to say it was ready, they said the wipers were really worn, and needed replacing, and they could do it for £17 for whatever tat they had (ECP are next door to them ::)).  I asked if they were able to show me when I arrived to pick it up, and if I'd make the decision then...

Now, OOFers may recall I broke a wiper on this car about 3 weeks ago (actually, I broke one on each car within days of each other), so replaced them. Luckily, as I'd bought the wipers from Halfords at work, the receipt was still on my desk (nice clear desk policy :P).

So, in I trot, let them give their BS about the wipers before presenting the receipt, dated 21 Jan 14, for the wipers, in their full waiting room. They got quite shirty ;D

That's a very good feeling, nothing better than catching out the 'pro's' in a lie :y :y :y :y

Not really a lie, just more of an indication of how pressured they are to upsell....

What I really dislike about this upsell mentality is that they are quite happy to stitch you up for parts that are not needed so that they can get their bonus >:(

Yep, everyone doing insurance work gets screwed to the bone, so probably no money in it for them unless they use it as an opportunity to extort more money from you. >:(

Where they giving away Bosch aero blade twins with each screen at one point?

Obviously not anymore. :(

It is worth fitting new wipers to a new screen though. Ones without springs give the screen an easier time. Ime. ....with Rain X. :)

Strange though how we get different experiences from the same company.  :-\

I was very impressed when I changed a windscreen recently with Autoglass via my insurance. They came out the next day, bang on time and the chap had swapped it in about an hour and was on his way. No fuss, no mess and no aggro!  :y

As to your windscreen wipers did I mention that Eurocarparts had a ........  ::)  ;D

I'll be impressed if they last longer than 4 weeks!!  ;D

However bad and annoying they get, it'll be an improvement on the old set!  ;)

Guessing in about a fortnight. ;D
