I saw a report on the news this morning about an attack on a power station/sub station in America. Middle of the night, miles from town a few gunmen jumped out of a truck and opened fire at various parts of the plant. They had gone well before any law enforcement officers arrived. Navy seals said that these guys knew exactly what they were doing, as the bits they were shooting at were the very same bits that they would go for in an enemies land. On this occasion they were able to reroute the power supply so no harm done.
But a man in the know went on to say that if several groups attacked several power stations simultaneously, they had a good chance of knocking out a significant part of North America. People, when left in the dark with no heating or communication feel very vulnerable and frightened.
My iPad has been messing about this morning. Apps telling me they don't know my location, yahoo mail deleting two of my accounts....pissed me right off, but got me thinking about how vulnerable and pathetic western society really is.
I reckon older people could cope much better than younger ones, and people in the desert much better than those in cities. We love our comfort and our tech but have they become the very thing that defines us?
Bunch of useless wimps really...aren't we?
