Whilst I would have agreed with that a few years ago, the last 2 years I had my wife's car MOT'd at Kwik Fit. And they have been absolutely fine with it. No unnecessary advisories.

The first time, they were the only one with a slot available in time and the second year I just automatically went to them. £20 each time around. And it is a 6/7 year old car, so not like they couldn't find issues with it if they wanted to!

Would I service my car there, hmmm, not sure.

Took wifey's megane to this fine out fit today for a full service and MOT. Why? you ask....£165....seems reasonable and I always check they've done what they say they've done.
So I gets a phone call about half ten saying it's passed it's mot except for two loose cv gaiters and, as I instructed, they've 'fixed' them as it cost less than £50. Alarm bells but hey ho. They were doing the service now.
About half one I gets a call expecting them to say 'Come and pick it up'. No. We think your steering geometry needs adjusting and both rear discs are 'at the limit'.
'Dont you dare touch the steering geometry!' I said, 'and, if it passed the MOT, the discs will be fine'.
But...but...but
Never fickin mind but, I'll be along to pick it up shortly.

£192......all done.

Questions for you Steve....

1.) You were charged £50 for two cable ties I imagine. That's a lot IMO
2.) What made them think your geo was out? Suspicious tyre wear?
3.) If you check everything they've done (i.e. spark plugs, air filter, oil etc) why don't you just do it yourself..... or did you just check the oil wasn't black?

Just thinking of your wallet mate as I know you northerners are, errr, tight as badgers' arse'oles  ;D:)

£192- £165=£27 for gaiter fix. They didn't think my geo was out, they wanted to rip me off. My knowledge of a car engine runs to quite a bit more than looking at the colour of oil, and did before you were pupped.  ;):D

Haha, I wasn't being patronising ;) but if youre going to check they've changed plugs and air filter you may as well do it yourself.

If it were the last place on earth I wouldn't get work done there. :o

I'd take it to the "under the arches" independent up to road. At least he's honest, and has been out of school more than 18 months, so has a bit of experience on the spanners. ;)

Shall I stamp the book too?

No, but if you do all the non messy stuff, they can stamp the book when they do the oil and filter. You get an even cheaper service and a stamp.

But I wouldn't trust those monkeys with even an oil change, not to mention what the next owner will think when they see a Kwickforkup stamp in the service book.

But then I suppose what do you care, if selling to www.webuyanyidiotscarfor1/8thofitsmarketvalue.com

I would be going trading standards, car passed ok no advisories and then you need new rear discs when being serviced,as said go to a local garage and get it serviced there,if your only doing it to get service booked stamped, which means nothing when selling a car.

Kwik fit have always doen the 'you need this that and the other'

Man father used to get customers storming in a few weeks after they had thier car seviced saying 'just had a tyre replaced and Kwik Fit say I need new discs and shock absorbers' (because they would not pay the dealer price which was usualy cheaper than Kwik fit).

So he measures the discs and checkes the shocks.....all ok and in spec.....

.....this was not a one off either but a weekly occurance!

You may recall my post from a couple of years ago when a bloke thought the price of a VW dealer for oil change was too high so he took across the road to Kwikfit Camberley- they left sump plug loose on Touareg - engine a gonner.
