The slush box in my Senator as absolute shite adds was gone within a month  ;) if a slush box works well then fine if you're lazy and you want it but my experience of the AR35 wasn't a pleasant one when it chooses first instead off second, resulting in head butting the steering wheel and then suffering whiplash from the lunge forward. Anyway you're just old and lazy Andy   ;D

Likewise  :y

It's just that some can't drive an auto and then sing praise to the hallowed manual ::) ::) ::)

Rally car/drift car/racing car = manual

"Fun" car when you know the roads are empty and the twisty bits are not slippery = manual or auto [AR35 in sports mode with 2nd selected  (if you hit the rev limiter then the roads aren't twisty enough)]

Family car sat in town/traffic jams/cruising motorways/towing 1600kgs caravan = auto

horses for courses as they say ... each to their own  :)

Out of 23 cars that I have owned, 5 were autos, every single one of them has been used for everything from popping to the shops through to 500 mile trips. Autos are great for getting from A to B with minimal fuss, manuals are better for hooning around :y

....... and an indecisive member of ABS once converted an auto Senator to manual ................. and then back to auto because he didn't like the manual  ::)

Corrected that for you.

That's definitely not a description of him  ;) ;)

His actions clearly suggest otherwise  ;D ;D ;D

for your information , a 97 2.5 v6 manual (only head gasket change) with port polish, 3.0 cams consume 38 mpg on a long run with  slight attention..

also same car from cold engine short distance rush hour driving in a cold weather consumes 28 mpg..

an auto has no way of making those figures..

and I'm too sorry for those years I used mine with autobox..  long pedal travel can be arranged ..

I now also have an auto omega from a friend to sell which I drive from time to time,  2 very different cars!! to say the least..

worth every penny spent on conversion..

With Andy on this... if you've got a race car then you want manual. For a luxury exec barge you want auto.

All these manual Luddites should try driving around London in a 44ton artic with a 16sped manual, then do it in a 44 ton artic with I-shift or astronic. They would soon be auto lovers :y

Yes but if you're going to compare like for like, i-shift has more in common with a manual box than an AR25/35 ;D

I-shift is without doubt the best autobox ever invented... instantaneous manual shifts, intelligent down and upshifts. Neither rush hour traffic nor winding country lanes ever see it in the wrong gear, especially in P mode :y If the Omega were fitted with a slush box of that caliber it would too close to call :-\

But it's not ;D so manual all the way...

The I-shift isn't brilliant, does throw a wrong gear to early going up hills fully up,and worst place is going up jubilee way just before 1st roundabout  :(

If I wanted mpg / km per litre I would buy a small city car  ;) ;)

Found it much better than either the Merc autos or that shitty Renault box fitted to the FL/Daf which you have to put into drive before moving a second switch to reverse ;D

But then have mostly only been running around the south coast in the Volvos :-\

I liked the manual box in the first omega but prefer the auto especially when stop starting town work . One foot 2 pedals is best ...

Someone (fairly sure he's not far away in this thread... ;)) will be along in a moment to tell you that you're doing it wrong and an auto requires two feet ;)
