I am against such bans. I'm not a smoker, and obviously do not relish fag smoke smells.  BUT that doesn't give me the right to infringe other peoples liberties, and insist on banning things I don't like*

If I don't want to go into a smoke filled pub, I'd find another. Simples.

* Except retards who won't attempt to get near the speed limit. They need shooting.

Or there's a genuine health concern. ;)
That's not your beef, that's down to the smoker...

I like the occasional drink, that's apparently a health concern. According to do-gooders, you drive too fast, potentially risking others. Should I be banned from a Friday night, and you banned from driving?

Passive smoking.

And if people kept left while driving they wouldn't endanger my life by pulling out in front of me.

If you want cancer from passive smoking go stand in the garden with the rest of 'em. ;D

And because I am against such bans, a smoker's (or do-gooders) reply would be that you need to stay at a maximum of the speed limit in order to cut risk to others.

Would you like to see an instant ban if the mandatory black box fitted to vehicles detected a speeding event?

Its a curtailment of people's choice. If you don't want cancer (and *still* unproven), find a smoke free pub/restaurant ;).

Not really, but I do get uptight when people are prevented from doing things they enjoy, and it has little impact on others (who are not forced to stand next to them).

I have too many vices that the do-gooders want to ban. Smoking is just the start.

I'm with TB on this...

If it were a smoking in pubs/restaurants where freshly prepared food is involved, then fine I wouldn't have an issue with that... Restaurants would be smoke free and pubs could choose between being propper boozers or no smoking gastro pubs (or whatever the term is nowadays).

But no, that would be too easy, so they made it a Health and Safety issue instead. This means that if I were driving my own van every day, I wouldn't be allowed to smoke in it, even if it only had a drivers seat in it. I don't smoke, but resent the fact that I am effectively banned from having free choice >:(

wtf are you on about.
When Labour banned indoor smoking in public places, they did say they wanted to ban drinking next. BRAKE are so far up the governments arse, its now almost socially unacceptable to drive a fossil fuelled car, let alone drive at a speed approaching the speed limit. 2 strokes have already been banned.

Just because you don't like smoking isn't a reason to ban it.  In the same way, just because some knob doesn't like drinking/driving/outrageously powerful bikes, that's no reason to ban those...

I think the ban in enclosed places is to protect staff as well.

Well I've been on the e-cig since February . Saved me a fortune, doesn't stink up the place or my breath, and I feel better. Without doubt they'll find a way of taxing the hell outa them shortly!  >:( >:(

Thing is though there are no regulations on the liquids and thus you cant be 100% sure what is in it.  I dont mind someone poisoning themself, but I'll be buggered if I will be forced to breath it too.

Well, if you applied to work at a pub/bookies etc, you know what you're letting yourself in for.  You worked for British Telecom? If you became a linesman, would you refuse to climb poles on safety grounds?
