Sad evening
« on: 07 July 2014, 19:08:53 »

Sad because I don't like harming any animal, let alone a deer.  :(

Sad because I hit & killed a deer near Woburn this evening.  :(

Sad because I damaged what was a pristine Omega.  :(

What rotten luck for all involved! :(
It could have been much worse though, so I suppose you have something to be thankful for  :-\

30 years ago I was riding to a bike rally the other side of Woburn deer park on a dark & frosty evening. I rode very carefully over two deer grids (like cattle grids but much bigger because deer jump further than cows....)

What I didn't know was that there was a third grid with a T junction the other side. I fell off on that one and smashed my kneecap  :'(

No, I already stupidly did that in 2012 myself, entering the Chunnel train, on the way to Bavaria and yes it was expensive.  >:(

Sorry no. I called Woburn Abbey security & they collected it. I too like venison especially Fallow Deer (fillet) which this was, but prefer to order it in a restaurant than kill it with my car.  :(

That is bad news.

I have feared hitting large animals whilst driving, especially deer that are so fast and unpredictable. They can not only damage the vehicle but severely damage those inside it!

At least you seem ok. :y :y

Years ago, my dad had a deer leap up from side of road and write his Mk1 escort off.

I seem to remember you cannot keep the carcass but anyone else coming along can. Presumably that law is to stop people deliberately killing for the pot.

Here is the damage. Surprisingly more than I expected. Cracked bumper & numberplate, smashed lights, and bumper displaced right across.  :o
And there was I about to celebrate my first 10K trouble free miles since buying it in February @ 17K.  :'(

I'll contact insurers in the morning and visit Motorbodies in Luton for their opinion.

No camera ::) :P

If it's pushed the front of the bonnet back it might simply pull out. If the bonnet has folded, even slightly at the second line, about 3" back from the front corners, you might find the slam panel is back as well... tell tale will be the smallest of creases where it meets the inner wing and the headlight brackets not sitting flush against the radiator frame :-\

Have hit a deer, a car and a lorry with the front of mine, so am quite familiar with how the Omega folds up... ::)
