Can anyone recommend a simple e-mail/internet tablet? SWMBO has an iPad which neither of us like, as it has a mind of its own, and is certainly not intuitively user friendly, like a PC for example. So I would like to get her something easier to use for Crimbo. I had a look in PC World today, but they have so many, and the Assistants(?) are somewhat less than helpful.

TIA

Selective bloody hearing again. ;D
Exactly. If a PC is what is needed, then its a bloody PC.

Aldi mode on. I like my ipad, and I like my laptop. But I don't like Chrisgixer. Aldi mode off. ;D

Wtf is Aldi mode? Dare I ask.
It's northern, you wouldn't understand.
No it's German, Wikipedia says so!

To Shackeng - You can get Windows tablets, if Windows is what you want. Not sure I'd recommend them though, especially the ARM based ones.  The Surface Pros, probably the most common of the Intel powered ones are horrifically expensive, even compared to iPads (though more capable).

To clarify - is it really a tablet format you want, or is it the (near) instantly available function that appeals. Is the laptop/notebook format definitely out in favour of a slab?

I'll say again, not much beats the intuitiveness of the iPad for a tablet style device.

I can actually see what Shackeng is on about. iOS 8 has made mine very unstable. Just watched Chris' utube clip, tried to lower the volume and it shut down. ;D ;D

She usually does her e-mails on the iPad while watching TV, then asks me to sort out whatever is wrong with it (Switch off /on is pretty much the sum of my Apple expertise), so a PC, which we already have, is not required, I also have an old Acer lappy running XP which I occasionally use while I watch TV (as I think i may have mentioned, I don't like the iPad :-X). So if I get her something else, it will be a tablet, a couple of her equally technophobic friends have them, makes unknown, and seem happy. I will surreptitously make enquiries as to the makes. :y

Well I'm sorry I caused so much dissension in the ranks, but nevertheless, there is much information in this thread for me to chew on, which I guessed there would be, as OOF is my first port of call for information on such matters.
Thank you very much gentlemen, you may now stand easy and have a beer or three. :y :y :y

At least if I was allowed it, I could grill it and still have oven chips.
