Finally finished the suspension...!
« on: 05 October 2015, 22:39:45 »

...after several contributions to the swear jar (some of them equivalent to the GDP of the average third world country), the Bilstein B6s, MaxTrac springs, and an array of bushings, wishbones and arms have all been fitted. And some brakes that work.

It's in at WIM for geometry at 1000 tomorrow (I'll thank you all not to point out that it means a very early start from The North) - even with four odd tyres, and not set up, I'm impressed - ride is a little on the firm side, but I can deal with that as it only does about 2k a year, mostly for fun. Can't wait to feel it after the setup...

I am of course expecting either the engine to fall out on the journey down, or for the WIM staff to point out I've fitted the shockers upside down, the wheels back to front, and left several vital bolts loose. But I'm an optimist...

Must at this point say thank you to Jason and Matt at All German - they've put up with me ringing them every thirty seconds to buy a different widget, or ring up and complain when something I haven't remembered to order, hasn't arrived. Thank you to the collection of chaps who have done the guides for changing all of the above - wouldn't have dared do it without. Also to the parts department at Sherwoods Stockton (same reason), the guys at Thornaby Machine Mart (for kitting out my garage anew over the last three weeks)... and MrsGK for not setting me and the MV6 on fire when I've been out til midnight working on him some nights. I recommend all of them, apart from MrsGK.  :D

Unless they do it different to where I went local, I hope you've got matching wheels. My place wouldnt do it first time round as the day before I had a flat tyre, so was running on one steelie and 3 alloys, and the difference in the edge of the rim (for clamping the magic laser pointy measurey tool jobbie) would have affected their machinery.

Hope all goes well! I'll be heading there one day, once the rear suspension is overhauled and refurbed.  :)

Currently watching the rear adjusters being persuaded to move with lots of heat and a big bar. Turns out the twenty doses of Plushas have been... Ineffectual.

You could have gone to Nigel Langs in Bolton, might be a fair bit nearer.

Ahh.. you didn't replace them, then?  :( Yeah, you want to sort a spare pair off a scrapper, free them off on the bench with heat, then re-paint, and re-grease, then replace them with your originals. If they don't come undone sorry to say you might be in for a drive back home, and another appointment in a week or two. Best of luck, though, hope they come free.

Luckily MrsGK turned it into a mad mooch to a couple of other places. Out of bed at 0400, back home at 0030. Must be mad.

Adjusters eventually came free - car now fully set with new tyres... And thus transformed. MrsGK was quite happily driving through monsoon conditions on the way home with no hint of twitchiness... :D

See, they seem very strange to my untrained eye. The bloke doing it wasn't particularly chatty, even when I was asking specific questions. Will post them up tonight.  :-\

Seems like a good end result after all your hard work.

Added some value too to the car. Be perfect for me when you tire of it.! :y

£700 delivered is my base point. ;D

No don't you dare tell us, it will weaken my bargaining position. ;D At the end of the day even if you spend £3000 on your car it is only worth £700 plus maybe a few hundred.

I would have had Dan282's car in a flash but for the none standard wheels. The MOT here doesn't like none factory fit standard wheels or tyre widths and you get a fail.

PS you can keep the swear jar and put that towards the next all consuming project.
