Why are you all selling up?
« on: 16 July 2008, 20:27:38 »

Lot of people seam to be selling their Omega's to 'save' money and get a derv oil burner, or something smaller at a cost of £1,000's my question is WHY!!!

Selling your Omega, which lets be honest are worthless now, 2k max you get for most now?

Spend 5k on or 10k on a derv, its going to take you years to recoup the costs in fuel unless you do megga miles (talking 25k + a year)

Another excuse seams to be the road tax rise, its another £200 for V6, just £100 for 4 pots.... again, why change!??

So what if you get a derv thats £150 cheaper to tax a year, £5k on a oil burner buys a lot of tax!  ;)

I really don't understand the thoughts of people selling!!!

If you want to save money, keep your Omega, swapping it won't save you money!

end of rant!  ;D

I'm not selling up mate. Slightly higher mpg & ins. but my age & low mileage covers that, plus it cost less than a "bag of sand" to buy in the first place. Cheap Migging! :y

Excellent Idea.... bury it with your sand, then dig it back up in another 10-15 years when Omega's are worth a fortune ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

My car is (almost) my only (well .. main) vice ....so I am keeping it. I like to drive around in comfort in a car with presence --- my dad can keep his baked bean tin (clit) ---- I don't burn £25+ a week on cigarettes, or filter the same in booze through the old kidneys, so I will spend it on fuel and tax (thankyou GB) -- as luck would have it I just escape the retrospective tax hike -- unless they tinker with that and take the date back further.

£300 a year? really  :-/

If you buying a house and £300 a year difference makes or breaks it, i would hold off for a bit.

also have to take into account the OOF, this forum has save me so much  money.

I am servcing my car at trade prices, i suspect a clit or VW Polo would be more expensive to maintain!

Keeping ours while viable to do so.

Wont be long before there is no point to a well performing car, be too many cameras / black boxes recording everything.

We have every intention of enjoying them while we can.

These mig's go on for years, big reliable engines, to get a similar condition small car, it has to be newer, and therefore more expensive.

Migs = cheap to buy, resonable to maintain, reasonable - dear to run.
corsa = expensive to buy, cheaper to maintain, cheaper to run.

I want a big practical fun car.  I need to fully load it up from time to time.   I know where I am staying!

Now LPG, that is becoming appealing  :y

Well i must be the  only one selling (well very nearly) my Omega V6 only to replace it with a twin turbo V6 Audi... mad or what?

I told my mrs i wanted a superbike to cut through all the traffic to and from work and to save mega money on fuel, but she was having none of it and said she doesn't mind paying more for fuel or tax!!  :D  She wan't an Audi.

But thinking about it, for any Omega owner, a few hundred squids should't make or break it, after all you must have know the Omega was a thirsty car to start with...  and to think some of you have more than one on the drive (MarkDTM!!) he's got some nice examples too. Greedy boy  ;)

Rant over   :P
