Manual rareity
« on: 26 January 2016, 08:36:16 »

Why are the v6 manuals so damn rare i cant seem to find one anywhere on all the usual trusty car buying sites. It's seems like ever old grandad has snatched them off the assembly line and wont let go. Any tips advice or even knowlage on a v6 manual or what it takes to put a manual in an auto im lead to beleave they sit well with the f25? Might be wrong thanks for any help

Plenty done it, and I'm sure that one oofer on here (Minifreek, maybe?) either had a manual conversion kit, or at least knows exactly what's involved. I believe it's easier to go from auto to manual than the other way round.

Either way, it's pretty straightforward, though, and meant to unleash some potential from the engine.  :)

Im starting to see it an increasingly viable option because i just cant find a v6 manual anywhere although imsurance arnt particularly impressed with it. Is there much ecu messing involved?

The manuals aren't the nicest of gearboxes  ;) Maybe they were auto by default for a reason  ::) ::)

The reason being that the targetted market of executhives who have personal assistants for everything are too lazy to change gear themselves  :P :P

P.S. Jack, you just said the magic word (drift) - it's like one of those 'wrong answers' on QI...

If you can fit an f25, knock yourself out ;D

If that's your intended purpose, then look elsewhere, ie 3series :-X

That said, give me £5,500 and I might consider selling mine...

Thats also true but for me its an obvious option when its much cheper to insure a 2.6 v6 omega than it is a 1
8 bmw 3 series power to pound ratio is massive an auto might do it mind

Manual 3 series grow on trees, are lighter and easier to tune. You could buy an Omega for 500, then spend the same again on the manual bits plus labour, or you could get a 320 for the same money and it will be better as it's alot lighter...

Of course, if you had any sense*, you'd be looking for a manual 2.0 Omega and fitting a C20Let into it...
