Air Fryers
« on: 09 April 2016, 14:48:52 »

Now I know you fellas love a good kitchen appliance thread and I'm wondering if anyone has an Air Fryer? ???

I'm staying at a mate's and we've been out and bought one this afternoon.  We cooked up a pile of excellent chips with about a spoonful of olive oil!  :y

We have had a couple. Latest one is a cross between an air fryer and a halogen oven. Awesome. Spit roast chicken in about an hour... Tastes awesome  :y

Swmbo has one we have had it for some time ,she uses it for chips etc
It is not bad the chips taste ok and are obviously much healthier as not covered in fat
The only thing I would say is the chips get very bitty (loads of little crumbs)
And once she has finished it comes apart and goes in the dishwasher for cleaning to make it easy for her
It is a Tefal actifry

I don't think our chippy has got one of those, but you can have loads of bits if you ask.

Maureen had one of those Tefal actifry ones.Personally I never really rated the stuff it cooked-maybe that was her cooking ::)-when she passed away I couldn't get on with it at all-maybe my cooking :o-so I swapped it with her granddaughter for her deep fat fryer. Not as healthy I grant you,but much better end product for me.

I looked a a few .....but if you get a chicken oven ready in a bag with stuffing and herbs (ready to go in the oven) ....ok the chicken costs a bit more.....and takes longer to cook in a fan assisted oven....it tastes great and moist (as the bag hasn't let the steam escape) it kinda makes it hard to justify a halogen oven @ about £50+  :-\

We have an Actifry.  Ultimately, the chips don't taste as good as when we had a deep fat fryer, to me its more like oven chips done properly (which we could never manage using the oven, as they always came out unevenly cooked, no matter how often you turned them).

However, it is simple, even I can use it. Chuck in the chips, half fill (as round here, we can only get oven chips, not proper frying chips) the green spoon with oil, turn on, set a timer for 32 mins, job jobbed.

We've had it a couple of years or more now, I'm concerned about reliability. We are on our 2nd paddle, and now the rim has broken. Spares readily available from those vacuum/electrical shops you get in most high streets, or from the usual online places. Tefal sell online at reasonable prices, but postage costs makes a £7 paddle quite dear.
