Anyhoo, reading the link, vehicles currently exempt from the congestion charge will also be exempt from this bright idea...

https://tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/congestioncharging/6713.aspx

Motorbikes exempt... FFS...

From memory, this is because the ANPR system reads both front and rear numberplates depending on which side of the carriageway a vehicle is traveling on. Hence it won't work for motorbikes. Plus it's not a freat idea discouraging them from the centre anyway.

They take up a lot less space than other vehicles, generally have smaller engines, and cause less pollution. They don't sit stationary in traffic jams as other vehicles do. And of course are much more fun than any other vehicle.  Exemption seems sensible.  :)
It takes me twice as long to cover the 70 miles to central London in my car as it used to do when I had a bike.
Summer isn't that far away and I'm getting tempted again. Must resist.  ::)

Motorbikes exempt... FFS...

The problem with traffic in busy cities is the sheer amount of it that isn't moving. This causes gridlock, long delays in getting anywhere, and lots of emissions for which there was no worthwhile return. None of this applies to motorbikes, as they are only stationary at junctions, or as the result of a crash. If you can handle the risks involved, small motorbikes are the vehicle best suited to city use.

What is needed is a reduction in the number of vehicles that are using less than half their load capacity, whether that's just the driver in a four seater car, or a van with a few parcels in the back. This is so contradictory to the modern 'right' of everybody owning vehicles to go wherever they want, whenever they want, that a huge social change is the only effective solution. That is only likely to be caused by events that will have consequences greater than not being able to use your car

There's a hundred reasons to ban motorbikes from every bloody road.  Not that there's any point in trying to convince motorbikeists/former motorbikeists of that though, so I shall not bother  :P ;)

Don't count me as either one of those; I haven't been on a motorbike since June 1987 when I was 17. From the way that they ride, motorbikes do seem to attract a lot of antisocial idiots.

I tried my riding my Cousins Scooter when I was 12 (He was at work) having got it going, went straight through the closed wooden gate, across the car park, picked up more speed, coming up to a roundabout, up the kerb then hit a lamppost sideways. It soon dawned on me that you rarely see people falling out of cars going around roundabouts, so kinda stuck with that theory ever since.   :-[ ;D

There's a hundred reasons to ban motorbikes from every bloody road. They are really really fast and very scary.

I admire your honesty.  :y :D

Funny you should say that. I was a passenger in a car which had a big accident. The driver was thrown out of the car on the first impact and slid along the road on his arse watching his car smash itself to bits against dry stone walls and trees with me still inside it.
He had gravel rash on his arse, and I somehow managed to slice the top of my ear off.  ;D

Funny you should say that..... ;D about 6 months before the aforementioned incident, I landed on my head after flying over the top of a set of traffic lights. Whacked the lights with my back on the way over the top and fubared a kidney. My right leg was already hanging off as a second earlier it had made contact with the rear end of a Hillman hunter  ;D
I was an accident prone youth, but I enjoyed myself.  :D

My God. You must date right back to the Victorian era. :)

Having said that I ran my fist moped into the back of a Sunbeam Alpine. I thought it was a Tiger and wanted a closer look. :-\ :D

Not quite. The Hillman hunter incident was 12th October 1976, just after pub kicking out time.  ::)
Don't know why I remember that date after all these years.  ::)
