Errr No........

Nice to see you again Kate  :y

But a blowing exhaust doesnt cause missfires......

I beg to differ, a faulty centre exhaust can cause rough running that may feel like a missfire, I experienced this some time ago on a Matra Ranho. As soon as I replaced a length of centre pip it was fine again.

Nice to hear from you again Kate :y

Glad you said that Mike, as I seem to remember a u/s exhaust on one of my cars causing bad performance / misfire seemingly.  ;)

I am sure that a faulty exhaust does change the pressure balance of the engine and effectivly "choke it" by back pressure and thus effect the firing of the engine. :-/ :-/

As for the Cat question Kate, if I recall correctly most cars, if not all, HAD to have cats fitted if registered after about August 1992.  I know that my 1990 Senator, and those registered up to July 1992, were the last were if I wanted to I could have erradicated the cats and still passed the MOT. ;)

Your Polo therefore I am pretty sure will have a Cat fittied. :y

A very common failure on those is the coil... Really easy job but bl00dy expensive part  >:( >:( >:(

Have someone with a coil tester check it for you... Most places will do that for free :y :y :y

As a word of warning... If it is the coil failing it may not give you much warning before it dies completely :o :o :o :o

Sorry to put the frighteners on there but wanted to warn you :y :y :y

Nice to see you again Kate... Keep smiling ;) ;) ;) :y :y :y
