Well already looking for the perfect S-Type, but guess a GS300 or LS400 would be worthy,

Though did have 3 months use of a 2000 spec audi A6 quattro...

These are dirt cheap now, you can get the 4.0 V8's for sub 3k!  :o

Shame about that interior though

I was sort of looking at E34/E36 BMW's, but trying to find a good one is the problem.  So I buy my Mig...and had nothing but trouble with it!

Should have had another 190E..perhaps..  trick was trying to find a large-ish Estate that was cheap and NOT a Volvo....

I was thinking about this very issue this morning.

I see that a lot of you are thinking about Audis.  I have been an Audi fan for a long time, but not as enthralled currently.  The 2001+ A4 is good enough, but much smaller than the miggy inside.  The older A6 will not be attractive by the time good miggys are hard to find, and the current one is just a big sled with a BMW interior.  The current A8 is nice if a bit big, but avoid the 2004 (first model year).

To answer the question more directly, I think that the Chrysler 300 will probably be the next 'Omega' in a 2-3 of years.  However, there aren't a lot around.

Has anyone tried the current model C-class?  Looks like a good all-round car at first blush.  Price probably won't drop enough though.

Some of the newer ones are OK, not all, but anything from the 90's should be avoided!

Forgot to mention the Phaeton, an A8 with less to go wrong on it.  ;)

Lexus IS 220 D would be my ideal choice. However I had a drive of a customers Prius the other day and I was totally impressed, quiet, well equipped, plenty of power. No I haven't gone soft, I had an open mind and honestly it drives very well, its his company car and he travels to Manchester and back twice a week. The wiring under the bonnet looked a bit scary though.

On that sort of run it's just a petrol car burdened with half a ton of extra batteries though. ;D

Really can't get excited about anything modern. Guess I'd either get something horribly mundane and FWD or build something a bit silly based on a classic.

heard about horrid build with the 300c, also the engine you want... 5.7V8 Hemi blows the autoboxes, its a merc box, super smooth 7 speed, but it can't handle the power, heard a lot of them blow.

Think if my 2.2 died would souce a low millage V6, but since thats getting harder, may have to go Audi route.

I plan to run the Meega into the ground, especially as we have this forum with maintenence tips and some really nice helpful people :y  But, Though I prefer RWD, I must say, I do like the Skoda VRS.... if the police use 'em they are usually a decent motor....

Bring on the ridicule :-X
