As for our PM I have never before witnessed a such an obvious display of " Arse licking" Starmer has no balls and is totally out of his depth, his invite to Trump from the King for his visit to the UK was embarrassing to watch.

The reverse of that is why should an invaded country be prepared to concede? ( give away ) their territory to the invader. Surely the starting point is …….. we want all of our land back .

No wonder the Baltic states and Poland are worried. The new world order is the three big super powers can now grab what they want and the rest of us have to toe the line .

If there is a ceasefire Europe is going to be policing that for ever trying to keep Ukraine and Russians apart. That means Britain stumping up maybe 10,000 soldiers “ for ever”. That will make Starmers budget creak……..

For all his posturing, Zelenskyy is grudgingly aiming for a ceasefire as a compromise to appease the suppliers of arms rather than a total end to the stalemate they call a war.

The reality is that he's not prepared to concede anything to anyone. And that's a problem.

Dont blame him. His Sovereign country has been invaded by an aggressor who had previously guaranteed Ukraines territorial Sovereignty.
The free world should be united in repelling the aggression, which would also bring about the end of Putin.
This war has been a huge mistake for Putin. It hasnt gone to plan by any stretch of the imagination, and its bankrupting Russia in the meantime.
Thats without even getting into how many Russian families have a son / father / husband who isnt coming home.
Putins position is much weaker than it was three years ago, and for the West to not take full advantage of that makes no sense whatsoever..
At the end of the day, its actually about right and wrong.

The only thing that really makes sense to me is that Putin has something on Trump and is using it to pull his strings like a puppet.
Other than that, Im just confused by what could be going on in his head.  :-\

There were rumours going round during Trumpy's first term that he was caught in a honey trap sting in a Moscow hotel room with a hooker, when he was on business there many years ago. Apparently there are pictures of the hooker giving him a golden shower.  :o   ;D

Obviously there is no substance to these rumours, but you have to wonder if Albs is right and Putin does have something on him.  :-\

Indeed, and a cease fire without any international backing is simply an opportunity for Putin to re-arm, just as he did after annexing Crimea.

That's the thing, for it to work, everyone needs to be on the same page otherwise it becomes yet another Middle East.

Regardless of how it started*, both sides need to sit down, behind closed doors if it cuts out the BS, and start having sensible conversations. Nobody came out of yesterday's meeting in a positive light.

Putin may well be the aggressor in this chapter, but the whole of eastern europe has been argued over for millennia.

I think Zelenskyy will either resign, or shortly be replaced.

That might not be a bad thing. A bit like Biden but he got the timing wrong or Farage. At the same time Putin and Trump could also resign and be replaced by statesmen ( or women)

Putin is totally behind the devious machinations here , there is no other explanation.
Trump and that little c***sucker vance have alienated and thrown into confusion NATO , every western democratic country ( except Hungary ) , the EU as a whole, and the UK whilst at the same time humiliating Ukraine and Zelinsky on the world stage and also giving russia a seat at the big table again whilst espoucing the belief that poor russia is the victim in all of this .
All of this because he didn't get his share of the  mineral rights and Zelensky didn't wear a suit ?
No , the speed and intensity of all of this is because putin is desperate and needs trump to pony up now .....right now !
There is no diplomacy or etiquatte being displayed here , just brutal coertion .

It's conceivable that at a swipe of a pen trump will sign an exectutive order ceasing supply of all weaponry , ceasing sanctions ,musk switches off starlink and the satellite info closely guarded by America will be unavailable to ALL parties .
I hope that Mr & Mrs middle America are utterly disgusted with what trump has done allowing their long term enemy to control their direction in the world  stage .
This will get worse , quickly .

Just came in and turned the telly on. Sky news popped on, just in time for me to hear Ed Davey saying "Britain leading the world, as we have done so many times in the past". I was overcome with embarrassment, imagining Trump and Putin pissing themselves laughing, and pitying the poor suckers who listen to this shite.

Coalition of the willing, apparently. ::)

Presumably some are more willing than others.

They cannot call it army of Europe or NATO. Australia and Canada are willing to send boots. I think it is quite a fitting term.

The proof of the pudding will be numbers and just where is all the money going to come from. 0.1 percent increase in the  defence budget for the UK is from stopping overseas aid ( 6 billion). I think the other 6 billion by 2030 isn’t funded. None of that covers this army of the willing. National service or conscription? Home guard. How much will a rolling contingent of 10,000 soldiers ( my guesstimate) cost Britain to send and maintain ( forever) on the ceasefire line in Ukraine?

There will be a lot of midnight oil burnt in Europe this week. Trump will be rubbing his hands on the sidelines.

Starmer seems to think that stroking and patting everyone is diplomacy.

I must admit that I was taken aback by the way that situation between Zelenskyy, Vance and Trump unfolded.

That said, I don't believe that we should be escalating our involvement in Ukraine, or at least be in such a rush to do so, as that could itself lead to a much deeper conflict.

With NATO focussing on Ukraine rather than its member states, the Baltic States are much more vulnerable without NATO support being available to them even though they are members.

The way I see it one of two things can happen and we need to be very careful about the choice we make.

1. Increase our focus on Ukraine and start another European/World war as Russia takes the Baltic States and into Poland.

2. Draw a line in the Ukraine conflict even if Putin and Zelenskyy end up having to concede something and put it to bed.

The more we escalate the more likely option 1 becomes the only path.
