Starmer didn't bother inviting Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia to his little Euro shindig in London on Sunday, which is strange as they are probably the most vulnerable NATO countries at the moment and British troops are stationed in Estonia.

I think a war is overdue, and might be a good thing if it jolts some of the morons that roam our streets back to reality. We had some silly little girlie complaining in parliament yesterday that we shouldn't take money away from saving the planet from global warming to put it into defence. Can she really not see just how warm Putin could make it if we don't stop him? Can't she?

The Falklands was 43 years ago, the spat on Lebanon was 41 years ago, and the last war we actively engaged in out side of a UN coalition was the Gulf War in '90/91.
And much as the passage of time is frightening, that was 34 years ago.

Have we been involved in conflicts since, absolutely, but not on our own, and ostensibly always in some sort of suppressive peace keeping role.

Has the US been doing much else, in the grand scheme of things not really, but from their perspective, we left Afghanistan in 2014 whereas they left, albeit in a total shit show, a couple of years ago.

US foreign policy hasn't been this abrasive since George Bush, but it could be argued that this is half the reason that things have got to the point they're at. Everything has only gone to pieces over the last four years

The whole situation is only being made worse by the media repeating sound bites rather than doing any actual reporting.

It's almost impossible to know what is actually being said, it's context and what else is happening in the background because all the focus is on a handful of words.

Something good could come out of this, even if everything settles down in Ukraine, and we get a period of relative stability. Trump has made the UK and Europe realise that they have to pour more money into defence spending.
I, naively perhaps, thought the world might be settling down by the 21st century, and people might realise that it's all a total waste of time and money to fight wars. But, no, it seems to be getting worse.

What I don't get is how Trumpy's mineral deal is supposed to stop the war. 

Who in their right mind is going to invest significant sums of money in Ukraine or send personnel there without US hard power guaranteeing their security? 

Meanwhile, no one seems to have bothered to ask what Vladimir Putin's terms for peace might be? 

I think that we can fully expect the Russians to take full advantage as the Ukrainians start to run out of kit thanks to Trumpy's arms embargo. Only a couple of nights ago they launched one of the biggest bombardments against Odessa since the start of the war.
