UK Holiday Prices
« on: 23 September 2008, 09:37:48 »

After Mike F started a thread on recipes, some way down cream teas and cornish pasties were listed.

So out of sheer interest I went and looked up the place I stayed in 25 years ago, The Barrowfield Hotel in Newquay.  At the moment it's unavailable (maybe refurbing)

So got redirected to some other hotels, put dates in from 11th oct to 25th oct for a single soom.  Not sure if these dates are classed as off season the price came back at £72 or £117 double.

Thinking it seems reasonable I quickly started considering having a break away to de-stress.  nearly died when I saw that was per night (You can tell I have not been away for a while)

So now my question is, anyone know of any homely (small) guest house (B+B) places in Newquay/Padstow Cornwall area that are reasonble.  Dont mind being off beat but reasonble to go for a bit a sea fishing most days.  Not even bothered about peak season.

Any links and recomendations would be appreciated.

TIA :y

Went to newquay about 10 years ago, drove in and drove straight out again. It was the filthiest town I have ever seen, and I live near Southampton and that's bad enough.

We arrived in newquay at about 11.30am and the chip papers and burger boxes where everywhere, it was a weekday not weekend.

Never been back, and probably never will.

Just my useless opinion.

I could not afford to go to Cornwall in the summer if I didn't have a caravan.

http://www.devon-online.com/sandpebbles/Welcome.html

A few years ago I desperately needed a break away from everything.  Went to a place called Hope Cove in Devon.  To me, it still has magical memories.., exactly what i needed at the time.., its got two beaches., one a small rocky one and the other is miles of sand and sand dunes. Its totally undeveloped.., just a few small hotels, one post office (sells fresh cornish pasties but u have to be quick, they sell out very quickly lol) and a couple of cream tea places.

At the time I stayed in a pub on a B&B basis but it was really good, not the run down sort of thing u can find.

I don't know the name of that pub anymore, but I did find the above link.  I am certain that u could probably negotiate the prices down if u wanted, given that its not peak season, but they're a lot less than the other place u were looking at.

As far as I remember, there were a small amount of fishing boats there (had fresh crab salad caught that morning very very locally lol).

Its not quite where u wanted to go.., but a very enchanting and peaceful place if u want that.

The road there is quite interesting.., lots of very windy and up and down hill lanes lol.., Devon at its best!

for £60 per night you can stay in a 5 star hotels (I dont recommend) which everything is included (although this is a trap)  and still above 25 celcius in south areas.

Even for 25-30£ you can stay in good hotels here..

Been having a think about, might look up a few places and do a traveveling and stop somewhere different every night.

So after recomendations for anywhere in the UK now.

Not been to Sctland since I was 16 and used to go spend the 6 weeks school holidays in Aberdeen, would be nice to go again.

Wales allways sounds nice, was last there when I was 19

Might not be your thing.., but stayed at Premier Inn recently and was quite smart for the cost - I think it varies from £39-60 per night depending on the motel.
